Apple Shares Trailer for 'CODA' and Greenlights First French-Language Series

Apple today shared a trailer for its original film "CODA" and greenlit its first-ever French-language original series, titled "Liaison."

CODA is a critically acclaimed Apple TV+ original film that tells the story of a 17-year-old girl named Ruby, played by Emilia Jones, who is the sole hearing member of a deaf family, nicknamed "CODA," or "child of deaf adults."

Gifted with a voice that her parents can't hear, seventeen-year-old Ruby, is the sole hearing member of a deaf family — a CODA, Child of Deaf Adults. Her life revolves around acting as interpreter for her parents and working on the family's struggling fishing boat every day before school with her father and older brother. But when Ruby joins her high school's choir club, she discovers a gift for singing and finds herself drawn to her duet partner Miles. Encouraged by her enthusiastic, tough-love choirmaster to apply to a prestigious music school, Ruby finds herself torn between the obligations she feels to her family and the pursuit of her own dreams.

"CODA" is written and directed by Siân Heder, who directed and wrote one episode of the ‌Apple TV+‌ series "Little America" called "The Silence." CODA was presented in the U.S. Dramatic Competition category at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival, and in total won four awards at Sundance. The film premieres on Apple TV+ and in select theaters later this year on August 13.

In addition, Apple today greenlit "Liaison" as its first French-language original series, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Liaison will be a high-stakes contemporary thriller starring Vincent Cassel and Eva Green, featuring a mix of English and French dialogue. The series will explore "explore how the mistakes of our past have the potential to destroy our future." According to The Hollywood Reporter, "The series blends action with an unpredictable, multi-layered plot in which espionage and political intrigue play out against a story of passionate and enduring love."

As Apple TV+ grows in scope I think it might make more sense to have like a weekly recap of all the news with the service instead of a new article every time there’s a trailer or new show purchase. It’s quickly becoming excessive.

I'm very disturbed by the above thinking. What qualifies as a realistic, good show? Guns and killing? That would definitely qualify as real, I suppose. But that's not what some of us want to see when we turn on the screen to relax and disappear into another world.

That Coda trailer hit me right in the feels - I had tears streaming down my face watching this. Whoa.

I'm definitely looking forward to this - I love emotional/inspiring dramas. Forrest Gump is one of my favorite movies ever.

I have nothing against adaptations. It's good when good ideas are taken and brought to new life. But then they should be declared as what they are: adaptations, and not "originals".

Original is lingo. It’s an adapted original.

It’s not an “Apple original” with a lowercase o as you typed. It’s an Apple Original, with a capital O. That’s the brand for all their exclusive content, not a description.

In my first comment, I wrote "Apple Original"– with a capital O. In my second, I only wrote "originals", without "Apple". What exactly is your problem?

My point is that you were correct the second time by making it a lowercase o. A lowercase o implies that the term is a descriptive. In reality the term Original is a catchall brand name not reflective of the underlying content, hence the capital O that Apple uses.

Maybe there’s a language barrier causing you to misunderstand me? This is basic English grammar.

I don't think it's strange that they call it an Apple Original, since this adaptation hasn't been released anywhere else first. That's par for the course.

Apple Original means it’s appearing on their service and nowhere else. If you want to argue it’s not original because it’s an adaptation of something else, I’ll show you a bunch of similar movies, books, or tv shows that are similar to the French movie. There are very few original ideas left.

that’s where they lost me. I can’t stand him, his face, his voice or his accent. I could list the reasons why but it’s really a gut response. Dude gives me the creeps, has since the first time I saw him in Brotherhood of the Wolf.
