I'm very disturbed by the above thinking. What qualifies as a realistic, good show? Guns and killing? That would definitely qualify as real, I suppose. But that's not what some of us want to see when we turn on the screen to relax and disappear into another world.
You just reminded me of this video

I don't understand why every post about a new TV/movie has posts saying how awful it looks/sound. Do people not realize TV/movies are incredibly subjective??
Because some people on here mistakenly believe that Apple should make movies and shows for them. And anything that they don't like, fails t register (in their mind) that Apple is making movies and shows for a broader audience that exceeds one.

As a deaf person with a hearing 4 year old at home I'm not sure how I will view CODA. I would certainly never stop my hearing child from engaging in something that brings him joy. I realize that it's complicated, and I'm not completely deaf so my experience is different, but I'm still wary of how this film might treat things.

Apple Original means it’s appearing on their service and nowhere else. If you want to argue it’s not original because it’s an adaptation of something else, I’ll show you a bunch of similar movies, books, or tv shows that are similar to the French movie. There are very few original ideas left.
Originally reminds me of the movie “Beyond Silence” (Germany, 1996), which tells the story of Lara, who grows up as the hearing daughter of deaf parents. Even as a young child, she serves as an interpreter for her parents. In her teens, she is discovered to be a talented clarinet player. She leaves home when she is accepted at a music conservatory in Berlin …

Interestingly, I couldn't help but notice the strong similarity between this film and a 1996 German film, Jenseits der Stille, and a 2014 French film, La famille Bélier. Same plot, same characters, and so forth. Gee, CODA is nothing but an American remake of the poignant German film and hilarious French film.

How typical of American film industry to remake many excellent European and Asian films into something so lame and pedestrian.

I'm not sure if it's gonna be lame and pedestrian – the Americans are usually quite good in tellings stories. But yeah... as I already noted a little earlier in this thread, they should have declared it as a remake.
And true, I had totally forgotten about "Jenseits der Stille" – looks like the Belier movie was also kind of a remake already.

I don't think it's strange that they call it an Apple Original, since this adaptation hasn't been released anywhere else first. That's par for the course.
Actually, it seems that the movie has been shown at Sundance festival already (at 1:11 in the trailer) and won several awards. Does that still count as an "Apple Original"? ;)

Who cares? You can play this game with everything and it never gets any less boring.

When I saw the title I thought they meant KODA (Kids of Deaf Adults) and I thought this was a story about Claire. She went viral years ago in 2013 with her animated signing and singing. She’d be around 13 now so too young for this Apple TV+ story. :)

2018 she became a certified PADI Junior water diver.

Original is lingo. It’s an adapted original.

It’s not an “Apple original” with a lowercase o as you typed. It’s an Apple Original, with a capital O. That’s the brand for all their exclusive content, not a description.
It actually gets worse. For example, in countries where BBC content is not syndicated, Netflix can buy the rights to it and brand it a “Netflix Original” in that country.

Personally, I don’t care if it’s a remake or adaptation but I do appreciate being told if that is the case. 9 out of 10 times I will research the original and watch that. Le Familie Belier is a modern classic.
