Apple this morning shared a trailer for what appears to be the inaugural episode of the second season of "Carpool Karaoke: The Series," which kicks off on Friday, June 15 with an episode starring Jeremy Renner, Ed Helms, and Jon Hamm singing songs like Bohemian Rhapsody.

Renner, Helms, and Hamm are all starring in the movie "TAG," which comes out on the same day the new Carpool Karaoke episode debuts.

"Carpool Karaoke: The Series" was renewed for a second season back in February after a successful first season that wrapped up last year. While this could be the first episode of a new season, the fact that it coincides with a movie release also means it might be a one-off episode.

For those unfamiliar with the show, "Carpool Karaoke: The Series" is based on the Carpool Karaoke segment that was made popular on "The Late Late Show With James Corden." The series pairs up different celebrities, musicians, and athletes, putting them in a car to sing popular songs.

The first season of "Carpool Karaoke: The Series" premiered in August of 2017 exclusively to Apple Music subscribers. A month ago, Apple made the first season of "Carpool Karaoke: The Series" available for free to everyone through its TV app. Apple says that this new episode of Carpool Karaoke will be available "only on the Apple TV app."

"Carpool Karaoke: The Series" season one featured celebrity pairings included Will Smith and James Corden; Miley, Noah, Billy Ray and the entire Cyrus family; Shakira and Trevor Noah; Game of Thrones stars Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams; Queen Latifah and Jada Pinkett Smith; John Legend, Alicia Keys and Taraji P. Henson; LeBron James and James Corden; and more.

I've never had a single episode / the guest stars entice me to watch an episode of this.

The whole concept of the original show with James Corden was seeing actual singers doing the carpool and getting to hear them sing their old songs again, having them share little anecdotes about their songs or very old stories they never got to share before, or just getting to listen to them sing stuff you'd never imagine! (like Adele rapping to Nicki Minaj)

They basically threw away all the novelty of the show and replaced it with celebrities and a bigger budget but it took away all that made it fun.

Apple wants to focus on Carpool Karaoke, and users want them to focus on Macs.

I've got a compromise that I think will make everyone happy…

And this completely baffles me.
Why anyone sees any enjoyment from watching celebrities sing along to pop tunes is beyond me.

Because some celebrities are entertaining and most people like to be entertained. It's a simple formula. I've only watched a handful of episodes - it's hit or miss. Really enjoyed the Ariana Grande and Seth MacFarlane episode, and I'm pretty sure I'll enjoy this "Tag" team episode.

This is just so pathetic. I don't understand why is this so popular let alone why is even Apple attached to this. What happened to good storytelling etc.?
^^^^that's debatable - are there any ratings or any other indication that they are huge crowds watching this nonsense? here is a show Apple should pickup "Lucifer" (before Amazon takes it)- it has a real fan base and the show is great.

It's a gimmick, and as someone above said, its original intent was to see singers in an unproduced environment, which worked.

But the gimmicky thing is very much Apple now, shallow and gimmicky like emojis etc. It really actually tells you the mindset of Apple/Tim Cook.

I’m so glad apple can find the resources to produce new tv show episodes in between spending so much of it not updating the Mac mini and not updating the iPhone SE and cancelling the Airport lineup and…

Do you really want Apple's marketing department to be designing new components for Macs? It seems completely out of their areas of expertise.

This rebooted CK isn't very interesting to me but why did anyone ever green light the idea of a singer singing their own song in a car? Every clip I've seen of that makes me feel so embarrassed for them. Like a bad EPK from the 90s. At least when you have a pop artist start singing a country or metal song (not their song), you have an interesting premise.

they have plenty of resources, no doubt about that - they just don't find it important enough so they basically don't give a **** about that as we all already know for a long time..

More slobbering over rich celebrities... just what the world needs more of. Way to go Apple... setting the bar high for society. I will never get this, nor will I get why people care what celebrities are wearing, tweeting, eating... or especially their opinions on anything important.
