Apple today shared a trailer for "Home Before Dark," a new Apple TV+ series that's based on the story of child journalist Hilde Lysiak.

The show follows Hilde, a nine-year-old girl who moves back to the small town her father is from. While there, she uncovers a murder case everyone else in the town had tried to bury.
A mystery inspired by the reporting of a real nine-year-old journalist. When a young girl and her family move back to the small town her father left behind, her pursuit of the truth leads to the unearthing of a long-buried cold case.
In real life, Hilde Lysiak was the first to report on a murder in her town of Selinsgrove, which gave her paper, Orange Street News, national and international media attention.

"Home Before Dark" will be available on Friday, April 3 on Apple TV+. Apple TV+ is available for a $4.99 per month subscription for the whole family, though Apple offers a free year of service with the purchase of an iPhone, iPad, Mac, iPod touch, or Apple TV.

Murder Mysteries must be popular, since they seem to account for about 100% of British tv on Netflix.
oh wait, 99%, I forgot about sassy cooking shows.

Can we get a show set in the post-planet, post-humanity future?

This is exciting! Cannot wait! Between this and Amazing Stories and Defending Jacob all on weekly releases, it feels like another November when so many shows were rolling out! Looks like November-December and March-April are going to be the content rich months for Apple TV+ assuming these shows continue releasing a year apart to the month.

I friggin love murder mysteries. More please! I am a thriller/whodunnit junkie and it is so nice to see the mainstream TV revival of this genre.

They sure do know how to pick top notch content dont they.
Agreed! Everything Apple has chosen so far has been incredible! I cannot wait to see what comes next!

The one disappointment for me has been Truth be Told, but it’s fine to have a misstep sometimes.

Looks interesting and can't come soon enough. Thankfully Amazing Stories will have me occupied till this one airs.

Very realistic! If I knew earlier that I could try to solve complex mysteries with the help of the police when I was a kid, now the world would be a better place!

You do realize the character is directly based on child crime reporter Hilde Lysiak. Not total fantasy.

Seems to be a nice throwback to times when investigative journalism was still a Thing.

This looks like another dud from Apple. The trailer is full of cringe dialogue and seems to be making the show more about a 9 year old girl instead of being a good crime solving show where the most important character is the victim.

Hopefully it doesn't include gratuitous use of the F word. The Morning Show was unwatchable with kids in the house. It seems that literally every sentence included the F word in that show.

Columbo was the best crime solving show ever, and the most important character was the murderer and/or Columbo, never the victim.

I have not used Apple TV+ since my wife and I finished season 1 of Servant.

This looks like another show that does not pique our interest. No wonder Apple gave us a free year of ATV+ with my iPhone purchase as the content is very underwhelming.

Maybe this should have been envisioned as a miniseries. How many seasons do they think they'll get out of this storyline? Unless they go to a CSI or Murder She Wrote storytelling methodology, which would probably ruin the plot.

We're enjoying this series.

It's also fascinating to read about the real Hilde Lysiak, on which the story is based.
In the series, when Hilde is attacked with disparaging comments, she reads them out loud at school. We didn't find it believable that a 9-year-old would have the gumption to do that, but it's based on what Hilde really did, reading the negative comments she received from community members in a video that she posted on her news site. What a great way to stick it to the man!
