Apple Shares Two Ads Showcasing New iPad Pro Capabilities

Looks awesome, but the reality is the 10.5 iPad Pro still keeps up fine, and is just as limited when it comes to the OS as the newer one.. so struggling to see the advantages. At first, I was like take my money, but then I picked up my 10.5 and realized.. why?

Speed, bezels, USB-C, cameras, Face ID among several other things. But I mean, if you don’t see the value then it is what it is.

I’ve gotten to a point where my iPad Pro 90% replaces my Mac. This takes me to about 95%.

All that’s left is Final Cut Pro for iOS. That app has looked like it was built for touch from the moment it was fully redesigned from FCP7 to X. My 8 year old iMac runs Final Cut just fine, so I’m sure the iPad Pro would have the horsepower.

loving that floating iPad design with the keyboard

Same. I think it looks great. I guessed with everything in that keyboard it would be around the $250-ish mark (It's $300). It's not just a standard keyboard cover so the price is more but by the looks of it it's worth the extra.

I'm very tempted.

I understand why the significant cost increase - there is a lot going on in the new case/stand/charger/keyboard/trackpad. It's an impressive accessory, glad to see it works for current owners as well. Well done Apple.

So it looks like the UI is similar to the focus engine on Apple TV. It’s not a persistent cursor. Has anyone been seeded review units? I’d be curious to know how the new keyboard and cursor support works.

Really solid update but I’ll likely hold off another year. My current older gen pro is still running fine and I want the next one to be a real step change.

The proper way to use a computer is funny indeed. This is a solid update for the iPad, although the keyboard isn't cheap and you end up spending more than $1000 for the entire setup, just like a Macbook Air. The iPad is a tablet though, gives you the flexibility to use it as a laptop or use it only with your fingers or the pencil.
The only problem I have is multitasking that isn't really convenient and sometimes hard to discover. I hope they'll address that problem in 14

Just imagine how much better this would be once iOS 14 extra features are added to it. Whew! For my needs, an iPad can replace my MBP.

If iPadOS 14 includes proper multi-user support with fast user switching, then I think I'm all in. That's probably the last thing holding me back at the moment.

I will probably be hated for this but not a big fan. I do actually like the floating display idea and really like the design but their is a reason no one else hasn't made something similar, and it's not lack of innovation. The "lapability" is going to be horrible for this. It is going to be very top heavy. Unless you are on a sturdy, flat surface where there is no wobble, it will be a hassle having to keep it balanced. Without a kickstand, like the Surface Pro, it will be horrible to use on your legs. Also with the keyboard being flat it is not going to make a good typing experience. The first two Surface pro's had a flat keyboard and it was horrible. When they made it slanted on the Surface Pro 3 it was so much better and comfortable.

That price though... $1000 for a stand holding 32" display and now $299 to hold an 11" display... Crazy!

Agreed. The bezels are a big deal, but 800$ + 300 big deal... meh. Maybe I can still cop an 11 inch.

Yeah it’s definitely pricy. That’s why I just try to sell the old to make up the difference of the new.

Your last sentence confused me though. You mean still cop a 2018 11” right?

Perfect for me.

Scissor keyboard? ✅
Backlit keyboard? ✅
Raised screen? ✅
Multiple angles? ✅
Trackpad? ✅
Extra USB-C port? ✅

Luckily, I basically never try to type on my lap, even with my 12" MacBook.

Yeah the price is expensive though.

Love that u can charge iPad but still have access to the iPads charging port!
I wonder how this works? I was chatting with an Apple rep a few mins ago. Said it was compatible with my V3 ipad pro. But couldn’t explain how it would charge it. My guess is it is wireless charging like phones that is built into the back of the case. If so, how is this going to charge the V3? Does the ipad pro V4 have a coil like iphones to wireless charge? A little confused.

The keyboard looks nice, but it has a price to match! o_O The value just isn’t there, in my view, for a locked down, limited OS that’s trying ever harder to be a laptop competitor. I value macOS and Windows because I can do everything I need with those.

But then I’m just not the target audience for this.

As my laptop replacement it needs to do at least three things.
1) FCPX
2) It needs at least two USB-C ports that can carry data so I can import from my USB-C card reader directly into my USB-C external SSD.
3) Earphone jack. I have a pair of wireless earphones, but I rather want to keep them paired to my phone without having to keep switching between phone and computer. And also I use my wired earphones on my camera.

And there will be a lot of others it is perfect for when they use it mostly on a sturdy stricture guaranteed not to wobble, but a huge part of the population will use it casually on there lap, or on their stomach while laying down in bed and I can see that being a problem.

Meh.. have the 2018 model already. I was really hoping for more; like OLED, graphene battery, much faster processor, wireless charging, 5G, etc. Don’t use the camera much at all. You gotta up your game Apple.
