No offense man, but you pretty much post below almost every story and most of your 'witty' jokes seem rather forced.

His jokes are free. You get what you pay for! Today's was pretty bad, but he hits the mark often enough at other times. Better that, than the sourpuss complaints and self-indulgent whining that so often passes for commentary around here.

Tesla is chasing a shrinking market. Personally owned cars are in decline.

The current generation is growing up in a world of Lyft/Uber and is less interested in driving or owning cars. The future is on-demand services. Not personally owned vehicles.

Why do you think Ford has already decided to start dropping cars from their offerings?
That is far far away. For now, its still personally owned vehicles and it will stay like that for at least one more generation if not longer.

Sorry Apple, but I think I'll get Tesla instead. I doubt you can compete with Tesla. If Steve was around then I would maybe think that you can pull it off but Tesla has Musk, you have no one. So, Tesla wins.
Prove me wrong :-D
Tesla can’t even compete with the major car manufacturers.

Don’t show me the white paper. Show the car. It’ll be doing the driving.

And. Remove the drivers seat and use it for extra storage space. I won’t need it.

That massive roof rack. With half another car strapped on it. Could we get rid of it please? I could use that same area for my golf clubs, surf board and electric bike.

Yes yes. I know some of you think we have enough cars with drivers in them as it is without adding more driverless cars to our already congested roads but surely it makes more sense to get your shopping done by a driverless car so you can stay at home and tidy up etc before it comes back?

By the way, these self drving car showrooms. Do they have humans selling them? Or can I just send the money and it’ll be self delivered? Great! And remember. No roof rack on mine, please.

Cheers. I’ll be in til lunchtime.

Who are You to offend another poster for his precious content? I will not report You, but your post is an open offense and You assess the content of another person!
I like his , for me strange, ideas , pls keep them coming

Can’t they?
They own the whole us market for I don’t know how You call it, upper middle class?!

Having a far superior car in many aspects, like safety etc

Sounds quite competent to me

Oh come on now telling someone you don't like his jokes is now offending?
And am i by telling you that i disagree with that also committing a hate crime?
What if OP feels offended by you calling him out?
Can you not see where this closed minded hypersensitivity inevitably will lead to?

Why do you think it's ok for you to call OP out for their content but when someone else does it its an offence?

I see where it leads, but I for myself finally understand that someone You don’t know telling his jokes are lame, on many occasions is an inappropriate offense. I didn’t get it too earlier but now I see that it’s an unnecessary offense, who wins by telling someone his jokes and as a result he is lame?!
It’s hurting, and doesn’t make the world a better place in my opinion.

Telling me that your free will leads to another opinion is a nice start for a discussion.. haha

Sad to see they haven’t gone into detail about how they are building safety into their systems (e.g. formal methods). nVidia just signed up with AdaCore to help them with their autonomous vehicles. I’d be a lot happier to get behind something they develop.

Exciting news. Any idea what the car will cost? :)

What car?

Lol, Apple isn’t making a car- they’re making some software that car makers can run in their infotainment unit.
Your comment makes so little sense... it’s like saying “I’ll never buy a BMW, I’m going to buy a Pioneer”. Yeah. Two COMPLETELY different products. One you can get in & drive around, whilst the other is a small component that goes inside the big thing that takes you from place to place. Make sense??

Do you really think they are making just a software? If so then you are not thinking this through.
Apple always wants to control both hardware and software so you really think that with such an important and massive product they would just do software for it?
No, they may have shift it to focus on the software for now but you can bet that they are thinking bigger than just a software thing.

A moment later we get a new rumour about an actual vehicle :)

Lol, then they attempt to rehire the hundreds of employees that they gained when they were originally were considering that route; that got let go??

Conspiracy theories aside...
I think we can all be fairly certain they’ve decided NOT to produce an actual car.
When I actually was “thinking it through” (thank you very much), I used FACTS like Bob Mansfield’s feasibility study coming back stating that they shouldn’t & the subsequent release of hundreds of employees previously attached to this potential project... you know, as opposed to like, my gut feeling based on completely disparate products released in the past.

The bigger hurdle will be getting people willing to pay for infrastructure improvements. If we don't improve our roads and bridges, it doesn't matter how many people we convince autonomous driving is okay.
I think improving self-driving tech is probably faster and cheaper (both monetarily and politically) than improving infrastructure to fit with current technology.

It might be cheaper and faster. As long as the self driving tech depends on cameras to understand road lines and limitations, the infrastructure is going to be a problem that has to be overcome. Our roads and bridges are pretty trash. Unfortunately it's going to take a death(s) from a self driving vehicle being affected by the roadway for any traction to be gained towards fixing the problem. Infrastructure has been a can that has been kicked down the road by a lot of people for a long time.

Tesla gave me a self driver as a loaner for a month a few months back. I feel like I almost died more than once. Nerve wracking that it wouldn’t even consistently stay in a lane. Particularly on highways where there were unusual deviations in the mediums.

Since Tesla gave you a loaner for a month are you saying you do not use/have Enhanced Autopilot on your Tesla? Which model and year do you own?

No problem for me, even here where they are constantly working on the highways. It does better with our no median roads, where they bring the cement k-rails right to the edge of the lane, than humans do. Humans cheat over into the next lane and cause traffic to backup.

It does take awhile to get used to the system doing things differently like always staying in the center of the lane rather than drifting away from semis, and into the vehicles in the lane away from the semi.
