Apple has begun shipping Lion USB Recovery Media to some customers, reports 9to5Mac.com.

However, we don't think these aren't the $69 thumb drives that Apple plans to put on sale at some point this month. These are likely the keys available free to certain users via AppleCare.

We spoke to an Apple representative on Apple's sales line at 800-MY-APPLE. He told us that the $69 Lion USB Keys aren't for sale yet and would be available later this month, but there is no concrete date for their release.

I have absolutely no need for this since I already created an SD card with Lion on it.

But now I want one.

Are you serious about it being the best looking?

I think it's very nicely designed as well, the clear choice of black silver and grey gives outline and an elegant silhouette. The placement of the ring and the logo are proportionate, the ring to the lower edge, the logo to the metal strips. And of course the thinness and the fact that it's taped to the card. Everything is unconventional, not excessive, yet remains elegant.

Not really the same thing, is it?

What do you think about the one I linked? I actually purchased it in the end, its quite nice looking, just a bit too small really but thats my fault for not paying careful attention to the photo.

Either way, it looks quite similar to the Apple one.

Those USB keys look sexy. I want one. I bet 80% of the price is design though :D

Wow. I posted this the other day. Amazon is ripping you off in the US for that drive.

Oh I'm in the UK, it was around £9. Apologies for linking that, it normally has all the Amazon UK links at the top of the google results page, that was at the top so I just linked it blindly.

EDIT: Your post you linked is how I found out about the USB stick - thanks very much!
