Just like apple should have stayed out of the phone and music biz 10 years ago?

Not a good comparison. Apple enters markets (iPod, iPhone, iPad) where it believes its products are better than what's offered or approach the market differently. Why the hell would Apple want to buy a capital intensive business like T-Mobile? As it stands, you can't run a 3G Apple device on their 3G network except in a few cities.
