St*pidest idea ever...

(w/ contract)

iPhone 6, 16GB, 4" - $199
iPhone 6, 16GB, 4.7" - $299
iPhone 6, 16GB, 5.5" - $399

Holy crap, DO U WANT ME TO PAY
iPhone 6, 64GB, 4.7" at $399?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?

[PS: not directed at OP, directed at the idea itself]

Just price the 4in model at $99 for a 16gb storage (they would probably only offer the 4in model at 16gb) Start the 4.7in model off at 199. And the 6+ at 299.

Don't think Apple would allow their new generation phone to be $99 on contract, even if it's the a smaller version.

More realistic is to simply have both the 4 and 4.7 inch versions at $199 on contract (to give customers a choice), with the 5.5 inch being $299 on contract like it is now...

Fixed your pricing for you, and no... it's not a stupid idea.

I know I would gladly pay $199 for a 4-inch iPhone 6 even IF the 4.7' bigger phone was the same price.
But that's you. Apple knows it can charge $199/$299/$399 like the previous person said because that's the status quo. People will pay more for larger screens because that's what the market conditions are today. Why would you charge less for something when you know people are willing to pay more for it? At the very least, it'd be a $50 price difference between a 4" and 4.7". If you price them the same, all other specifications held constant, consumers will wonder why the smaller phone costs the same as the larger one.

Not directing anything at you..

but, if u look at the 6 and 6+
under ur mentality, they should have priced it exactly the same, but they didnt.

I could say..
"More realistic is to simply have both the 4.7 and 5.5 inch versions at $199 on contract (to give customers a choice)"

but nope, not gonna happen.

You're damn right that's not gonna happen since the 6+ is considered the "Note" of the iPhone line and has the 'premium features' such as OIS, bigger battery, and full HD screen.

Having a 4-inch and 4.7-inch phone with the same features just a difference in screen size both at $199? That would be realistic IMO.

Android phones seem to be releasing miniature versions of their phones, usually with less power options, but some with the same power options. What if Apple released an iPhone mini, like the 6 but 4.3 inches slightly less powerful, or just as powerful, would you buy it?

On paper there is very very little difference between the 5s and the 6. So right now Apple have the smaller option.

Unless you already have a 5/5s and want to upgrade but don't want a bigger phone. Then you're out of luck (if you have a 5 IMHO it's not worth shelling out the the minute upgrade the 5s brings).

But if you don't have an iPhone. Or have a model earlier than the 5 then the 5s is still an excellent phone.

Apple should make the iPhone Mini

I predict Apple will do a 6c next year that will be 4" and contain this year's internals . It will have NFC for Apple Pay and Touch ID, but won't have whatever the new feature is for the 6S.

Right now the 5S is filling that spot. It's still a fantastic phone with great specs, but is missing NFC, the big feature of the 6. However, you can do Apple Pay on the 5S in conjunction with the Apple Watch.

The 4in model would more than likely not have the same exact specs as the higher end 4.7in model and the even more higher end 5.5in model. So yeah, I could see them offering the smaller less spec'd out 4in model, at $99. They'd say its a, and I'm using my best annoying Phil Schiller voice, "a price point for every customer" God, I can't stand Phil Schiller. Dude just annoys the hell out of me.

Sorry, this will not happen because the market has dictated so. That is why Apple went to the bigger screens.

I really kind of hope they do. Having tried a Note 3 for a few months about a year ago, and checking out the 6 and 6 Plus at the Apple store, I've really come to appreciate the form factor of the 4/4S and 5/5s.

I've actually been on Swappa and Apple.com A LOT recently considering the 5S 32GB as an upgrade from my 5C (Swappa makes me leery though that I'll get burned or have a bum battery or something).

I figure it might be my last shot for a while at a smaller handset, and at least with the 5S, I'd have touch ID and a faster processor to hold out for a while. The issue is, of course, I can't quite talk myself into pulling the trigger on a 400-600 purchase when it's not a ton better than my 5C....

Decisions, decisions....(feel free to weigh in and give me your opinion!)

EDIT: speaking of which - isn't there a second-hand buy/sell forum here on mac rumors? I've heard people talk about it, but never been able to find it. I feel like I might be a bit more comfortable buying from someone here, then an unknown on the internet.

I recently just upgraded from 5 to 5s, and I'm very happy about it. The shape and size of 5/5s fits my hand and my pocket perfectly. I'm not using half of the features on the phone and I have an iPad to read and type stuff on, so I find myself no need to spend extra to get what's new. Rather spend wisely at no additional cost, in my case.

Just curious that what can you do with NFC at the moment? It was a premium feature for Samsung and even before that blackberry had it for years. Why suddenly apple brings it and it's a hot shot? I can't find justification for spending much more for some features that I won't use at all.

I'm all in for your whole "upgrade" idea. I on the other hand just upgraded from 5 to an 5s at no additional cost (contracted). I'm more than happy to keep this little nifty for another 2 years then upgrade to whatever is making sense at that time. Or even keeping this and just sell the new contracted phone.

I totally agree with you that current market has been driven to accept more bigger handheld devices than compact devices. However I believe that there will be a turning point where public will find themselves don't know what to demand anymore. IMO, bigger is not necessarily better :)

I agree. I hope it's just a market wave, kind of like how those huge Hummer vehicles used to be popular, and that more compact smartphone options come back over the next few years.

What ya'll think about the name of the iphone? Do you think Apple is still continuing to use 'iPhone X' eg iphone 4, iphone 5, iphone 6, iphone 7?

I think they should just call it iPhone and iPhone + each and every year. Simply let people reference whichever one they have/want by year if they need to specify.

Um Apple offers 4", 4.7", 5.5" model iPhones. Not sure why you think there has to be a 4.3" in there?

i think the general consensus is that every year should be updated with the new design and spec with a 4", 4.7", and 5.5" model.

which i dont see a harm in that, unless the 4" models dont sell, which i think it will because it would basically replace the "C" line.

and just sell the regular older model per say iPhone 6 (when it gets older) for free at 16 GB.

they really need to drop the 16GB for the current models. not to mention iPads where the ape are much larger
