Just saw how Apple is advertising the new Apple Music Voice plan in the update. That's just baiting competing companies and government bodies to sue/use as evidence.

What is Apple thinking?

This is 2022. You don't need a whole OS update to add a new music plan. And stop making it so obvious that you're bundling and abusing the platform to market services that competitors just can't.

This is (almost) 2022 and if stuff needs an OS update to integrate perfectly with the ecosystem, then so be it ;-)

I dunno why that becomes “a legal problem” given Apple also advertises this new plan everywhere else and it’s on headline in many tech forums/news outlets. A.k.a, it is well known.
Apple have other more true legal problems waiting to be resolved, but surely not this one.

At some point, it’s counter productive to base your business decisions around what will result in the fewest lawsuits. Epic sued and lost, so imagine if Apple had simply capitulated right from the start.

Just continue to right by your platform and your customers and if it’s a fight the competition wants, then I hope it’s a fight that Apple gives them.

Yeah. Sometimes getting fined is cheaper than changing products for the better, however weird it might sound.

Not what I was trying to get at.

Basically, my point is that not every lawsuit against Apple has merit, and just because a certain country is suing Apple doesn’t automatically mean they are right and Apple is wrong.

You are just needlessly restricting yourself by trying to steer clear of what you think regulators might take umbrage with.

Requiring an OS update adds way more friction than a simple app update, so I don't see how it gives Apple any advantage over a third-party app that can be updated in just a few seconds. If anything, Apple is at a disadvantage here compared to third parties.

Apples in built apps also only ever get updates along with the OS, like Safari, Maps, Notes etc etc.
