As someone who has never taken a selfie (there's enough ugliness in the world), this -- like Siri and Goople Intelligence -- is in no way a reason, let alone a key one, to upgrade to a 17.
Can’t say I’ve never taken a selfie, but I’ve taken very few selfies in all these years. No selfies I’ve taken of myself with my wife and/or child, or some other relative have ever made it to social media. Those pictures are for us.

The two major reasons I acquired my iPhone 17 Pro Max are the 2TB storage and the three cameras have the same image size. I also have Leica Camera's software and LUX grip which takes iPhone photos to a new level.

The square front camera makes orientation a non-issue for selfies which I seldom use.

I've always held my phone out horizontally when taking a selfie.

Now I have the iPhone 17 with its new (to me) camera button ... I still hold it horizontally otherwise I find it very hard to press that button.

The reason is not key enough. Rather than having to swipe liquid glass and let AI dress up the photo, I take a few steps backwards to fit everybody into the selfie, on my older iPhone. We’ll remember to take a second look if we are at the edge of the Canyon.

How is taking group(!) selfies narcissist?
The act of taking a selfie isn’t. It’s the motivation. Too many are getting some kind of validation from social media and get inflated sense of self as a reusult. If you’ve ever had your child physically pushed aside by some idiot who thought she was obviously more important in order to take a selfie, you understand.
