Never heard of this person. Sounds like another pre-teen fantasy series like Harry Potter, or that one up there in the northwest with vampires. Guess I'll wait to see it on ATV to find out what it's all about. Apple probably paid far too much, but teens are the ones that spend the money.

He is a talented writer, he finished The Wheel of Time after Robert Jordan died, and the series is more adult oriented, not pre-teen stuffs. His Mistborn series is also mature and even political.

I'm only familiar with his work finishing WoT, which he did a good job with.

I hope he keeps a tight grip on his properties and doesn't let any retards into the writing room.

This news is HUGE. This is perhaps the most popular IP in the world that hasn’t been adapted yet.

This could be as big as Star Wars or Lord of the Rings.
Quite the claims 🤣

Although as a bit of a bibliophile, I’ve never heard of this author or his work and some of the comments here (Marvel for grown ups, Wheel of Time etc) don’t exactly ignite interest.

Edit, just read the rest of the article…

with the first three books featuring a group of magic-using metal manipulators or "Allomancers" overthrowing a dystopian empire. The second set of books follows the exploits of Wax and Wayne, two lawmen with magical abilities in a more modern setting…

“…five epic fantasy books, each of which could easily be used for multiple seasons of a TV show. The Stormlight Archive is a classic good vs. evil tale, featuring the Knights Radiant against Voidbringers who want to conquer the world.

Yeah, no wonder. I mean, seriously. Even my teen kids who are voracious readers wouldn’t give this the time of day. Hard pass at this sort of guff.

Well I would maybe ask you to take a look at the goodreads stats for this author. I mean, a description with few words usually does not give you much does it? I mean, only book 5 in the stormlight archives is longer than the lord of the rings. So how do you sum up 5 books with 18 words?

But if fantasy literature is not your thing, then that is fine.

Edit: That beeing said. I am a big fan of Sanderson, and I think the final book in Mistorn era 1 is one of the best books I have read (I am in my 40-ies). On the other hand Stormlight book 5 did nothing for me, even if Stormlight 1-3 is some of the best reading I have done. So he has ups and downs as a writer. But even If book 5 missed its mark, I no not regret reading the first 3 books. They were simply that good.

Brandon Sanderson's Cosmere books have been #1 on Audible and Kindle on a fairly regular basis for like a decade straight, dude.

I'm not making bold claims, I'm just stating the facts. This is a huge deal.

Yeah…sounds very hackneyed. “Wax and Wayne”….guhh huhh….get it ?? Wax and ….oh forget about it….

Now….a proper big budget remake of Krull….that I would subscribe for !!

I've only read the first book in the Mistborn series and the first book in The Stormlight Archive series and they're both really, really good! Glad to see Apple picking this up instead of, say, Amazon. Apple TV's Foundation had a very weak second season, but at least it wasn't a complete tragedy, unlike Amazon's The Wheel of Time.

Brandon Sanderson is just about the current most successful fantasy author on the market. He has multiple series, most of which are highly successful. Some are borderline young adult but definitely not pre-teen, and his Magnus opus, Stormlight Archive is most certainly not. Mistborn book 1 is my all time favorite fantasy book, and I have read a LOT of fantasy. His writing style is not for everyone, but what author style is?

This could be great . . . or horrible. They have to find show-runners/writers/actors who actually have read and like the source material. Otherwise . . . I think I know what will happen.

From the article:

"Apple agreed to give Sanderson unprecedented control over screen translations, so he will write, produce, and consult on any TV shows or movies that Apple makes about the Cosmere universe."

Oh boy, more misguided product focuses from Apple! Can someone get the company like, a really big Adderall or something for their ADHD?

what sort of content should Apple be making for their streaming service?

There can be a chasm of difference between “write, produce, and consult on” and write and/or produce all of. Without having the text of the contract(s) or having Sanderson’s explicit thoughts on the matter, we can’t know exactly how much control he will maintain.

Sanderson is a great story teller and world builder (but a poor writer) so bringing his works to life could be great. Hopefully he can carry it off and continue his path to richest savviest writer since Rowling.

Oh you mean like the show-runners/writers/actors who actually never read or liked Isaac Asimov's Foundation? I'm sure Apple's take on this will be spot on.

Dang it. I was planning to read Stormlight 5 next, but it looks like now I'm on the clock and need to finally get around to reading Mistborn.

Good stuff, though. I'm really looking forward to seeing what Sanderson can do with this.

Presumably there are those who want Apple to focus solely on things that interest them. They'll get defensive and never admit to it, of course. They may not even realize it.

This isn't my genre, I've never heard of him. But if the guy is good at what he does, is popular, people like it and it is going to "sell" then it was probably a good pick.
