HBO has been successful for years with this formula though. That's why they bought Sesame Street and a big reason why HBO Max happened. Parents get extra reasons to justify a subscription with the kids content added.

Apple is following the HBO playbook to the T. Solid originals, funny comedies, kids content. They are just not including the heavy R sexual content and graphic violence.
Yup. I know lots of parents who got Disney+ just to watch The Mandalorian or something else in the Marvel/Star Wars bucket and planed to cancel after seeing what they wanted. Then their kids saw there was a nearly unlimited buffet of Disney content and it was game over. r.i.p. any plans to cancel.

Yes, you hit the nail on the head. This is HBO’s formula. They don’t have to have a huge library like Netflix, only a collection of Apple Originals, curated for their high production value and with a diversity of viewers in mind. There really is something for everyone.

As a new arrival, Apple is complementing their all new shows with rebooting old favourites to make up for lack of familiarity with existing IP. Amazing Stories, Fraggle Rock and now Where The Wild Things Are bring in viewers who might not know about tv+ but do know those shows.

My brother is one of them. A stubborn Android fan who “hated Apple” and refused to even try to switch was brought in my Amazing Stories, Fraggle Rock and Tom Hanks. He purchased his first iPhone when Fraggle Rock’s back catalogue became available.

This kind of influence is worth every penny Apple is spending on their TV platform. I’d say they should go even further and acquire CBS Viacom, bringing in the Star Trek universe IP. Disney’s Star Wars vs Apple’s Star Trek (a perfect fit!) would be an awesome era in friendly TV rivalry between two giants that get along.
