This guy is one of the worst "directors" ever and is not a DP any means. Student films at best. Roma is an unwatchable trainwreck of deadly slow pacing, mistake central camera work, miserable story telling. Gravity ? also unwatchable trash. Children of Men ? could of been good but again horrid direction that was just a groan maker of trite, bad, painful.

Everyone has an opinion, but your opinions are simply wrong. This may be the worst post I have seen here.

Awesome news. I love several of his films.

Children of Men still has one of the best no-cut sequences ever in film. Extraordinary.

That scene was so tense and I was so focused on what was happening that I didn't even realize that it was one cut. When I went back and re-watched it knowing that I was floored.

I'm not sure how happy I am about these exclusive deals. Guaranteed income for creatives does not necessarily push them to do their finest work, although I do concede that the flipside of this argument is equally reasonable.

With that said, this is quite a score for Apple. Roma is one of the few films made in the last decade that can truly be considered a classic and the rest of his filmography is equally impressive.

A different world than we see elsewhere, as in major sports, business, etc. Reputation is everything to producers, actors, directors, etc. If they produce a single flop, it's a major deal to them and others in an artistic sense. Moreover, the only reason they are getting, and will continue to get lucrative deals, is if they continue to produce quality. Unlike some athletes, etc., who are looking to get their big paycheck and then can coast, these people are in it for a career, and in many cases, much of their lifetime.

Well, I am sure most people laugh when Amazon started making TV shows but look now they have 90% RT scores and lots of awards.

For Apple all it takes its 1-2 shows that people/critics rave about and that $5 subscription will be seen as a bargain.

Hell I subscribe to CBS All Access for 1 show - ST Discovery - looking forward for Pickard next.

And yes like everyone is posting - Cuaron is a master story teller.

Even if you hate all of Cuaron’s work, this move completely aligns with Apple’s reported move to win lots of acclaim and awards for original programming. This is a big score for them that even outshines that exclusive they lost with JJ Abrams.
This deal with Cuarón isn’t exclusive. And Abrams is still producing a good amount of programming for them.

Again, Apple has endless money to buy creative talent, content, and whatever they want.

Netflix on the other hand just had to sell $2B in junk bonds to raise capital.

This game is all about money...tougher days ahead for Netflix with Apple and Disney coming.

I want Apple to pick up the shows Netflix canned: OA, Tuca & Bertie, The Innocents…
