Apple Silicon and Leather case for iPhone 6S / 6S Plus vs those for iPhone 6 / 6 Plus. Differences?

Have anyone gotten their hands on the "new" Apple Silicon and Leather cases for the new iPhone 6S and 6S Plus and been able to compare them with their iPhone 6 and 6 Plus counterparts?

According to Apple these are "all-new cases", but does that resolve in new coating and finishes or are they just referring to them being slightly altered in order to fit the slightly thicker bodies of the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus better compared to the previous ones?


I have nothing bad to say about the Silicon Case for iPhone 6 Plus, I've been using Apple's blue Silicon Cover for months now and I do love the fit and finish and the simple fact that improves the grip a whole lot. The Apple Leather Case for iPhone 6 Plus on the other hand felt surprisingly bad.. I did go with a midnight-blue Leather Case to begin with and replaced it with a blue Silicon one after a short period simply due to the overall lack of quality from the leather case. It feels more like some kind of sudo wrapped thin cardboard than it feels like leather if you ask me...


Judging by the high-resolution photos on Apple.com it does look like the leather cases are of another finish compared to the previous ones. Looks more like the finish of the ones for iPhone 5 / 5S.

I preordered 6S+ but I don't have a 6+, so I'm in race for a case. I noticed that a 6S+ leather case costs 59 Euro in Apple Store (Germany), but the old remainder 6+ leather cases in third party stores went down to 39-45 Euro. I wondered if I should go with that low price for almost identical "old model" or whether the 6S+ ones are worth it in terms of quality.

The moment I saw the saddle brown color for the 6+ leather case I jumped on it. It looks beautiful and I am a big fan of brown leather and the way it patinas (if thats a word).

I am the opposite. I have 3 apple silicon cases and I didn't care for the rubbery like texture when holding my phone but loved the way the midnight blue leather wore down and felt very good and minimal on my 6+.

Interesting you say that...I have read that the cases are different leathers. Do not know if that is accurate or not

Yes. I had the midnight blue for my 6+ and ordered the saddle brown for the 6s+. I do not have it shipped as of yet so I cannot compare the 2.

I can say the new midnight blue silicone case doesn't pick up lint like my last year "black" silicone case did

Don't forget that the leather cases for the 6/6+ were different as well depending on what colour you went for. Black, navy and brown felt nice but the red and soft pink felt horrible.

See the difference in leather between my red and navy leather.

Bestbuy canada also lists the same cases for the 6 and 6S. The 6+ and 6s+ might be a different story as they do have bigger changes in dimensions.

I ordered the red silicone for my upcoming 6S+. It should be arriving tomorrow through UPS. I'll see how it fits my 6+. I'm not surprised Apple said that the 6/6+ cases "wouldn't fit" the 6s/6s+.

Received the midnight blue leather for the 6S. Its significantly lighter blue then the 6 version. Its slippery as S***. I tried it on my 6 and the buttons are very hard to press. I don't like it at all. I really hope the 6 case works fine on the 6S.

I got the brown one and it's beautiful. I was going to use it for a few days and then return it. I'm going to keep it. It feels different than my soft pink one for the 6plus.

Thought I'd mention that I purchased the 6 midnight blue case. Fits perfect on my 6S!

I bought two midnight blue cases for my rose gold 6s plus. One leather and one silicon. The leather feels cheap like the old 5 series leather and is bulky yet tight, so I kept the silicon which is great as usual.

For my rose gold 6s I went with the midnight blue in leather as its not as offensive on the smaller size.

Previously I had white silicone on my 6 and 6+ both space gray.

Waiting on a Caudabe veil and a Caseology envoy case.

i had the Black leather on my 6, so i went to bestbuy and purchased the Black leather 6 plus case, for my 6S plus.
Fit perfectly. I was concerned, but i said I could return it if it didn't so hey. I'm glad I took the chance, because it fits perfect.

Did the same. I actually got the black 6+ leather case in a clearance sale for half the price. Very happy with it so far.

I always go black case but I wanted to switch it up and the Saddle Brown looks great and should wear well.

I got the new silicone case in Midnight Blue...the color is very nice...I have the lighter blue one from last year for a 6...there is a difference...the apple logo on the back....on the old 6 case, the logo is indented...you can rest your finger "in" it...on the new one...it is NOT indented...mostly flat...you can feel the edges of the apple logo but it is not "cut out"...not a big deal of course...just pointing out the difference...it is a little slippery for silicone...but a very nice case.

I can tell you from personal experience that the 6 leather case does not fit the 6s like it should. The outer ridges of the case are almost flush with the face of the phone making it virtually unprotected when laying face down. The 6s in the 6s case sits a bit more recessed and is therefore better protected.

Plus, I've always been a fan of black bezels too.
