I was wondering if anyone is following the development of Apple Silicon iMac display controller boards. I’m looking to build my ~end game~ monitor, and I’d love to get an M1 iMac, hookup a display controller boards, and use it as an external display, helping it meet the fate of every 5k iMac.

I looked earlier and I didn’t see any available boards for the M1, does anyone here have any insight into if there are boards available or if there anything in the pipeline? Thanks!

I don't think there are display boards specifically for SoC, monitor is a monitor, is a monitor. There are already several existing threads for this subject.

Yes there is a display controller board that has cables and firmware to drive the LM235UH1 screen panel from the M1 iMac, and later.

However, there is the good news, and there is the bad news: 🙁

“DIY iMac 24-Inch M1 (2021) External Display Conversion Kit**
**Model Compatibility:** A2438 / A2439
**Screen Model:** LM235UH1 (SD)(C1)
**Resolution Support:** 4.5K / 5K / 8K
**Controller Board:** R1815 V2 QUHD”

The bad news is in the second to last line…
8K !

It’s a premium product designed for converting a Dell UP3218KA 8K monitor screen panel at 8K, and comes with a premium price.
$658.90 to the UK… 🙁
The iMac 24” firmware is an afterthought.
