When is someone going to complain that the multi-core score of the M1 is almost 10% lower than that of the base model of Mac Pro? (which only cost 8.5X the price of the base model M1 Mini, without wheels.)
Given that the performance is 10% lower, Apple could offer a set of nice wheels for the Mini for the reduced price of only $629.

Or maybe if not Apple, some designer/artist/sculptor type on Tindie (et.al.)... at that same price point.

While I will say I'm impressed by the new processor, I will say I'm not impressed by the obliviousness of the stupid people who live and breath Apple. Sure, Intel processors suck, but AMD does not. Here is a the CHEAPEST of AMDs newest processor, the Ryzen 5600x, which only has 6 cores compared to the M1 with 8 cores. It beats the M1 processor in both single core and multicore most of the time.
I'll admit that Intel is crap though. Here is there best consumer card and it doesn't come close to the M1 or the 5600x.
Anyways, don't be dumb and say something before you can prove it. Hate on Intel all you want, but you obviously don't know much about the CPU landscape.

the TDP, how much the cpu draws. The Ryzen 5600x has 65 watts tdp, while M1 is 15-20 watts tdp.

I don’t care what the Air benchmarks are. I care for HOW long can it sustain those loads. Since it doesn’t have a fan. Looking forward to see data how fast it throttles.

i think this is everyone is interested in especially without the fans to cool down... reviews will be out very soon

fingers crossed!

While some of your orders appear to be "preparing to ship", my order is still "processing"...:(

This will cause a seismic shift in the PC market. Imagine how many manufactures will be dropping x86 for an ARM based alternative, hoping to catch up.

Microsoft better start doubling down on Windows on ARM!

Also Mac mini Server clusters.

From what I’ve been able to find out, Parallels will work at some point. They’ve got an early preview program you can sign up for. It seems like a great opportunity for Parallels to work with Microsoft to offer an in app download of an arm based Windows install? There’s always Linux, too. Although I figure it might be a good time to learn PowerShell instead of installing Windows, but that’s me lol

I’m looking forward to moving on from my 2015 MBP to the new 13in MBP. Looks like 16GB of RAM will behave differently than we all might be expecting it to.

And id expect double that on the 16” MBP when they do update it next year. With the extra PCI-E lanes to support 64gb of ram and more i/o. By then the platform will be much more mature too.
FYI PCIE is not the DDR I/F , they have nothing in common , DRAM I/F is a wide parallel I/F while PCIE is a serial I/F.

iPHone is marginally better than other phones at best. My previous phone was an iPhone 11 Pro, now I have a Samsung Note 20 Ultra. My iPhone 11 Pro had a faster processor based on published benchmarks, however my Note 20 does not feel any slower at all. I will believe that these chips are faster when I see reviews running normal apps from professionals who state that they see a real-world gain. Processors impact battery life, however they are not the performance bottlenecks for any mid to high end system. Apple states that these new processers are faster than 98% of machines, however, remember, 98% of machines are low end. Apple is comparing 900 dollar computers to computers that cost less than 500 bucks, so if you are someone who buys decent computers rather than cheap ass computers, who cares? Plugging in does not bother me. Battery life really isn't that important if you don't travel with your computer.

The last sentence is almost literally what the “I’m a PC” guy said at the end of the keynote. You don’t see how wrong you are when you are taking the position that everyone else uses as a strawman?

Apple comprises a very small market share for them, this means nothing to just about the entire computing market, considering apple won’t be selling chips to anyone else.

The chip is nice, but ultimately no one outside of the apple ecosystem is going to care because it’s not viable for them.

Here's another perspective....who is going to buy an intel machine at this price point when a Mac is a) going to be that much more powerful and b) have a battery life of 2-3x?

The vast majority of your average consumers will be highly attracted by this prospect therefore Intel will be losing the entire Mac market + new users moving to Mac for the above reasons. I was going to buy my daughter a cheap windows laptop when she goes to high school next year....now she'll be getting a MacBook Air which will likely see her completely through high school.

Why would manufacturers drop x86?

Are there any comparable non-Apple ARM chips?

Unfortunately there are no ARM based alternatives available for them (at least none that compete with what Apple’s doing, or even with what Intel or AMD are doing). And none of them have the in-house CPU design capability that Apple does.

So where are all those forum members who have been dismissing the Apple Silicon processors as “phone chips unsuitable for real work?

No comment from them? No retraction of the previous dismissive claims?

Yeah they’re still here. I responded to one a few minutes ago in one of these threads.

Showing people that they are wrong just reinforces their wrong beliefs.

Wow, and the 13” MacBook Pro is only .61” thick. That’s the same as the 2020 model, but still equally ridiculous.

Yawn. Wait until they need to go off chip though the caches and to a DDR scheduler/controller to LPDDR.
This is a synthetic benchmark and tells nothing about the real world.
Right! All of Apple's specs and benchmarks are usually blown away their real world performance because they own the entire stack it will be even more so.

Apple can also dramatically reduce the price of the 16” MacBook Pro if they choose to do so, which starts at an astonishing $2,399.

The future of the Mac is incredibly bright with the Apple silicon, I don’t think the market even fully realizes the impact this will have once Apple fully transitions over.

I hope they stick to a single chip design that’s upgraded annually and keep it simple instead of fragmenting it across different models.

What has changed? Macs have always been way down the list in gaming. Windows PC have always provided the best gaming experience, or Consoles, at second best, if you can't afford a decent gaming rig.

What has changed is that one could Bootcamp (or hackintosh as I do) and dual boot the same hardware.
One machine for Mac and Windows
