Looking to purchase the iPad Pro10.5 w/ cellular and will purchase outright from Apple Store.

My question is if I sign up for ATT 1g or unlimited plan for 1 month ( I have ATT for my cell phone) and add the line , then decide the next month to choose another carrier T- Mobile for example, will the embedded apple sim allow this ? I have been told at numerous Apple Stores and Genius bars no... It will lock to that carrier you first chose. Your only option is to buy a new APPLE SIM cards and when ever you change carriers put in a new Apple Sim and start new.

.....But lets say in Jan I am heading to EU and will be in Italy... Can I go to cellular setting in the iPad and select the available Italian service and buy that plan for my needs? According to the Apple web site that is how the embedded sim works and that is what I should be able to do. But if I started with ATT my card is locked and cannot access the Italian cellular carrier?

What is the real advantage of the Embedded sim card?

Any real world experience of using multiple carrier with the iPad pro and apple sim?

I know I can buy a sim card in the country I am visiting, but it is a whole lot easier just to pick one that is offered and buy a plan for my needs in the country I am visiting at the time. I don't want to be lugging around a bunch of sim cards..

The Apple sim is supposed to allow you to do it but att doesn’t allow it. Once you use the Apple sim with att, then it is locked to att. If you use it with t- mobile, it does not lock to t mobile. That being said, I was pretty sure the iPad Pro has a secondary SIM card tray that allows you to use a secondary SIM card

The iPad Pro does have the SIM card tray as well as the embedded SIM. My embedded SIM is on AT&T, but when I went to Europe for three weeks, I used another SIM in the tray and then switched back to AT&T when I returned to the US.

Somehow AT&T breaking the Apple SIM is worse than Verizon opting-out entirely. What I've done is kept the Apple SIM (my iPads have all had a removable one) for Sprint/T-Mobile/international usage and then used a second SIM for AT&T. Also, if you go to an Apple Store, you can get a SIM for any of the carriers for free (they just have to check it out to you, but no account verification is necessary). If an Apple Store isn't near you, AT&T will gladly sell you a SIM for $5 or you can pick up a GoPhone/AT&T Prepaid SIM (it will work with the iPad for data) for $5-$10 at most Best Buys, Targets, Walmarts, etc.

I'm curious - if anyone has locked the internal Apple SIM on the iPad Pros to AT&T, would a removable Apple SIM (like that found in the iPad Air 2, iPad 9.7", and first-gen iPad Pro 12.9") work in the SIM tray?
