The main problem with Apple Sim in my experience was that the data plans available for it were so expensive it didn’t make sense to use aside from times when convenience became absolutely paramount.

T-Mobile $10/5GB/150 days.

Lol pretty sure these were free. Best to know what you’re talking about before commenting.

Also it was released 8 years ago. Not 4.
They were not free, they were at least $10 iirc. You can (or could have at least) bought them from the Apple Store individually.

Embedded in which country?
In my country it cost something like 50€ or 99€.
I answer myself, as it is a forum of coffee analysts and fanboys: Apple SIM was included in iPads only in the USA and UK.

In addition to having plans given by prohibitive costs, all the other countries in the world even had to spend money to buy this garbage, who knows why in ten years it did not have good results.

Go ahead so Apple, proceed as you are doing that I foresee a bright future. Without you.

It’s way more reliable than wireless and much faster than lightning. What’s your problem with it?
The USB-C connector is very difficult to remove and requires a lot more force than Lightning. Every time I unplug my MacBook, I feel like I'm using the force it'd take to tear a phone book before the connector finally detaches.

Also, the tongue being inside the connector port is more fragile and costly to replace if broken. Lightning puts the connector pins on the cable, which if broken off is an inexpensive and easy replacement.

Hmmm, that will be another hit to my small business if Apple removes the physical SIM card option from US iPads Like they did from the iPhone 14’s. The developing nations we do relief work in do not offer e-SIM options for non monthly contract users. Being able to simply use their local SIM card is really a big issue for us.

I have a business account with Apple, when I discussed my situation with Apple support, while trying to buying 10 iPhone 14’s with a physical SIM, Support told me they hadn‘t thought about this being an issue.

The eBay resellers are making a killing selling Canadian iPhone 14’s to the US.

The physical connection is unreliable and it's difficult to know when it's fully seated, unlike Lightning.

They were $5. Even some people at the Apple Store didn't know they had them. I bought 5 of them last year after I realized that carriers could vendor lock an Apple SIM.

It was actually really great because you could provision with any of the major carriers in seconds with great data rates and then use that SIM for whatever. Shame to see it go. Now I've got 4 useless cards.

The irony of this discussion (and the forced migration to e-SIM) is that my M1 iPad Pro 5th gen. could not activate a cellular plan on an e-SIM. I had to go in to the AT&T Store and have them put a physical SIM in it for it to work. 🤷‍♂️

Welcome to America's tightening on crypto. This is so that when the gov/banks introduce their own CBDC, they can easily track and control you. But don't worry, this will come to the rest of the world as it's already the way in China.
Not sure if serious…

That is much better value than any plans I’ve had access to when investigating Apple SIM. I’ve never had reason to use it in the USA.

It's an iPad exclusive plan that only shows up when you sign up via Settings - Cellular. I don't think this one shows up on T-Mobile's website.

This is an excellent point. Apple really does not want you spending extended time abroad with these devices. Or they want you to get a new phone for the local sim. It’s like you squash one proprietary connectivity issue and they have to come up with something to replace it.

Oh no, someone will just have to insert a carrier SIM if they want to activate one of these cellular iPads going forward. The horror.
Personally, this effects me. Apple sim was great for traveling when I didn’t want the hassle of finding a sim in an unfamiliar place.

I had to replace one a few months ago. It took arguing with 3 store employees before the 4th knew what I was talking about.
