If you were able to use your iPhone on a monitor with a keyboard and mouse, with a useable UI (not even really needed), it would be more than fast enough for anything you do.

Fast enough for anything you do, perhaps, not the case for everyone. Heavy photoshop/3d modeling/audio work/video editing/compiling (even light 'proper' gaming) on an iPhone grade processor? No thanks.

I really hope they don't switch to ARM anytime soon, the switch from PPC -> x86 was a PITA but at least it was a worthwhile switch, going x86 -> ARM seems pointless, especially in a very expensive 'pro' machine.

You've clearly never done any of those things to a proper level then. I can ASSURE you that all of those things are possible with the chip that is in the iPhone. You also clearly have no idea on how hardware acceleration works, and what really stresses stacked DIE chips and what doesn't.

I do on a regular weekly basis Video, CAD and Audio work.

90% of my CAD work i do on a Raspberry Pi that is connected straight into my CNC Mill and 3D Printer. Write the Code, tool path it, then machine it. No problem for a 700Mhz Last gen ARM....

If people want to call **** out then fair play, but have something to back it up with.

If you are talking about MacBooks with ARM, first one will be Air.

What will move to own ARM processor give Apple? Well, imagine todays MBA with 15+ battery life, near Haswell performance and price point around... 499/599$. That's all in short.

I shudder every time I see somebody post this idiotic idea. This would be a disaster on so many levels... Just terrible.

Well, since we're dreaming, I think Apple will also add a printing press that spits money out.

ARM may reach near-Haswell performance some day, but not when Haswell is still considered current. Haswell will be a distant memory by then.

Err, yes, I can ASSURE you, I have, thanks. I work in games design so do high-poly 3d modeling/animation, photoshop, video editing/rendering every day. Obviously it's possible to do those things on an iPhone, it's possible to do them on a computer from 1990 too, that doesn't mean it's "more than fast enough" to do it productively.

I'd love to see you work on a large high-poly scene on an iPhone CPU/GPU, viewport performance would be barely usable, painfully slow.

Anyway, this is off-topic, I was simply replying to the claim that an iPhone is "more than fast enough for anything you do", if that was the case why do people spend thousands on powerful laptops/desktops?

Pointless hypothesis.

Giving up Intel means giving up any kind of compatibility with windows.

Now, MAC OSX front page: Why you will love a Mac: "It runs windows and windows application".

Everyone, everyone that uses seriously a computer (out of who edit music, video or photo) needs an application that is not mac-compatible or, if it is, cannot be obtained "easily" (and we all understood what I mean).

Your post doesn't make much sense, are you saying that unless you edit music, video or photos that you will need Windows? If so, well sorry to say, you're incorrect. I use my Mac for everything, the only time I "need" Windows is when I'm NOT being serious...as in, playing games. Windows is great for games. :)
