further proves soccer is not a major sport in the US and won't be. The major 4 takes a majority of the ratings and probably wrestling gets more viewers in the US than soccer
I think it more says that the MLS is rubbish and entirely manufactured for competition. Real soccer is European or South American club game.

Yes, Messi was great, a worthy contender for the greatest ever but he just isn't physically able to play football at the highest level.
Perhaps with Argentina around him he still has a few years left as others will do the running around but judging from the Club WC a few months ago his team should be called "Messi's friends retirement home".
IMHO the USA should concentrate more in younger home talents.
Messi has a place in FL which is why he plays there. Otherwise he'd be retired already.

got it for free and never watch.

For $25 I get the English Premier league + ton of movies/shows with Peacock.....

or $7/m get the Italian league/ Champions league + a ton of movies/shows with Paramount plus..... not sure what Apple was thinking trying to charge $99 for the MLS pass

I'm European, support a 121 old club, football (or soccer) is by far my favourite sport pastime.
But you can never say that. Nothing is set on stone.
Just the other day an USA basketball team was defeated. Quite an accomplishment.

Here in Canada, it's basically the same story: soccer has never been popular except with immigrants. According to statistics, soccer's popularity among the locals ranks about the same as sled dog racing: a niche sport at best.
And that's fine – each country has its preferences. You go to France or Italy and find out that ice hockey and baseball aren't exactly popular there either.

In Canada and the US we got NFL/CFL , NHL, NBA and MLB in Europe soccer is king and nothing much else really.

I live in a predominantly Irish immigrant area in the Bronx. They love their Liverpool, Celtic, and Man United. None of them watch MLS. It’s not even shown in the bars when there’s nothing else on. It’s just how it is. Even all the Spanish immigrants don’t watch it. It’s just really subpar soccer.

Apple is so kind dropping prices for its consumers
OR
Apple is desperate as no one gives a SH about soccer and is not paying the ridiculous price that's charged for other sports by the greedy people involved in them, Corporate American GREED needs to GO AWAY !

They dropped the price because the regular season ends October 19th. Every sport drops their package deal at the end of the season the NBA, MLB, etc...

Difference is: football is the worlds most popular sport with insane amounts of fans around the world (and money involved). The World Cup final in 2022 had 1.42 billion viewers, compared to 127.7 million watching superbowl 2025. USA and Canada are probably the only countries except the Vatican where football is not a top sport priority.
Football being very popular outside the US is my perception too, from my corner of the US. Potentially dumb questions... do the parts of the world that are really into football watch MLS? Is that NA-only? FIFA and MLS are separate? I don't really know much about MLS. I don't know anyone that follows/watches MLS. Soccer is popular for kids around here but I've not experienced it translating to adults watching it.

Why do people come here to comment about their hate for soccer? Wow, impressive. Not for you, fine move on. Don’t be an ass about it. Do you want android people coming here spouting all kinds of bs about how they hate iPhones?
Why do people come here and comment about the comments? If you don't like the comments, fine, just move on. 😂🤣

It's not hate, we're just spelling out why Apple can't sell a MLS subscription for $25 in the US. It wasn't meant to be taken as a personal or cultural attack.

As someone outside of US who follows MLS (Minnesota United is my favorite team) and pays for the whole season; thank you Apple and MLS ⚽️

Good enough football, good production and great price.

🥱 Make MLS great again (aka free to watch) it would make Apple look like a world leader if they did that. Instead they gate keep the MLS right when Lionel Messi (the worlds most popular footballer in the history of the sport and foreseeable future) comes to the states to play.

Call it the Apple Effect, thanks Tim Crook

For those who aren’t interested in soccer, the rest of the world doesn’t really care whether or not you like it. The untapped potential of this market would be huge for our country. We’d go from laughing stock of the world to the world’s best. It starts with making games free to watch

MLS isn’t the thing making you a laughing stock.

In Europe, MLS is not a league in high regard. Much like Dubai, MLS is seen as a league where stars from the big leagues go to finish off their careers and make that last bit of money for their retirement fund.

FIFA is the football association of the world, members are the associations of different parts of the world; UEFA in Europe, CONCACAF in north America and so on. Then every country has their own governing body which in turn selects the national team. The different leagues in each country is not arranged but acknowledged by the respective football association of that country. In US it is the USSF: United States Soccer Federation, founded in 1913!

I'd say football is more important than anything in some countries. I don't think Americans really understand how important football is for millions, if not billions of people all over the world.

I actually like the American system more; there are more different teams winning the championship in MLS compared to the Premier League.

In European football money dictates way too much which teams are successful.

Not going to subscribe. But good to see a price cut. Some may end up signing up for the rest of the season.
