“Cook has apparently made glasses a "top priority" for the company and is personally invested in product development efforts.”

Cook? Now these things are double doomed.

But honestly, I just don’t see this being as popular as the Apple Watch (which I don’t own and have no desire for). And the idea of everyone on the street wearing something like this is rather dystopian to me. It’s bad enough everyone and their dog basically has a camera on them at all times with their phone. Something that’s only caused more societal problems (especially combined with the scourge of (anti)social media). Remember Google Glass? Yeah, that went over well. Very well.

A lot has changed in the 10+ years since then.

These look like a smart watch, and potentially smart phone, killer to me.

I hope Tim Cook notes that Google just out-Apple'd Apple with his product announcement. Note that this was a real live demo, not smoke-and-mirrors for vaporware.

I genuinely wonder if the population not already using (vision correcting) glasses daily would want anything to do with this.
Not sure a lot of people already wearing glasses would jump in. Personally my lenses cost AU$1000. That'll be an extra cost on top of the glasses and prob won't have all the features I do in my current lenses (multifocal with transitioning).

Unless it could display some data visually, not really interested. Kinda like who needs a camera on your Apple Watch?

I wore glasses up until college then got contacts. I don't want to go back to wearing glasses , even if its a gizmo and only for a little each day. If they were smart sunglasses for doing stuff out and about, maybe, but even then...

And lenses are insane. Scratching. Glare. So many things the non-glasswearing public would have to get used to or Apple figure out a way to adjust, besides prescription lenses for those who use that.

It'll be an interesting reveal.

We are on the cusp of peak human intelligence. Soon people will not need to learn anything or think for themselves, they’ll have glasses and other things do it for them. Makes me sad.
