By 'redesign', do they mean case redesign? I really hope so. Those cases have had the same general design since 2003. Not saying that there's anything wrong with the current case.

Other than it's absurdly large compared to many other mini-towers and midi-towers with similar expandability.

Its a workstation, how big it is doesn't really matter. It normally goes on the floor.
Funny the MP gets criticized on size when you see HP/BOXX/DELL with their so called "workstations" almost at same specs.

Some might, but it looks like lots of ppl already jumped to nix/windows
Id like to believe that but even our IT dept at (corp offices of 3000 plus employees) work here have started trickling Macs albeit MBP into their realm.
These guys we're PC heavy in the last 20 years and now Im seeing MBP everywhere in their dept.
Not bs you its true.
But then really who cares. I will always buy Apple Mac Pros for work and for heavy Iron till they stop making em.
I have a few Dells and BOXX 3D stations here to tie me over till the next wave :)

Too Late for me

I'm waiting for the new Mac Pro since End of 2011. Now i bought a used Mac Pro for a good price. So i don't buy a Mac Pro next Year. And i don't change to Mountain Lion!
i'm MacUser for more than 20 Years, but this arrogantly non support of the business user made me angry about apple. Apple was for a long time leader in this area, but now nothing!
In business, we need the machine for working. Some features should be standard now, (USB 3, Blueray).

Mac Pro Rumour Mill Roundup:

- New Redesigned TBA Early 2013: Confirmed by Apple Spokeman.
- New Form Factor (Cube): Very Likely.
- Single 10" Fan on top (cube ff with 2/3 occupied by Mammoth Cooler): Obvious if FF is a Cube, also Full Passive / Liquid Cooling are open options.
- MainFrame Storage restricted only to SSD (same modules as on rMBP): Very Likely.
- Stackable Storage Attachments Modules via Thunderbolt: Dual 3.5" HDD, and 5 3.5" HDD capacities to be offered: Very Likely.
- Integrated/Discrete High end Graphics: ATI with Proprietary Video Interface: Un-Reliable Rumor.
- I/O: USB3, Thunderbolt/DisplayPort, FW800, WiFi, Bluethooth: Obvious.
- CPU: 1 or 2 intel Xeon, Upto 16 Cores / 300GFlops: Very Likely.
- RAM: Upto 64GB: Obvious.
- OS/X: Mountain Lion: Obvious.

Bluray and USB3?
I think your on the wrong side of the required professional business end of the original Mac Pro.
Part of my day to day job is BD authoring and trust me, its not that important in the professional creative end and not even in the broadcast/film side.
USB3? The Mac Pro and PCI capability kinda blows away all that.
Get yourself an ATTO SAS card with GTECH eS Pro RAID, then you can see why there is no need for USB3.
I am of course talking about the professional side of things here.

What a bunch of BS.

I direct capture to external USB 3.0 3TB drive without a single issue, it supports over 200 MB/s.

For heavy work I use two Intel 520 SSD (240GB each) -- ATTO SAS card with GTECH eS Pro SAID is absolutely NOT necessary at all.

Is there anyone left on the MacPro side that is a professional??

Adobe's PP suite CS6 and Maxon's Cinema 4D render SO MUCH faster on my Windows 7 box ... who do you think will get the deal, the shop that says we can get it done in a week, or the shop that says we can get it done in a month?

My Windows 7 workstation cost me $3500 and is many magnitudes faster than the best Apple have to offer. But to really put the death sentence on Apple's MacPro line, I just ordered a race mount server (Windows of course) with 48 AMD CPUs (4 12core CPUs), 256GB RAM, 5 Intel SSD's in RAID 10, the cost of that unit was $6000.

My single MacPro (now sold) cost me $9000 and is about 1/5th as fast.

If you're a Professional and still "in hope", it's time to move on.

What a bunch of BS.

You can call it whatever you want but how about think about what your complaining about?
You are pitting a Mac Pro in its current state against what?
A PC?
Well then, just pull the trigger and move on over :)

Oh gee I didnt notice your gear list...you already are.

What else is there to compare it against? A rumor? A "likely" statement from Apple? Exactly "when" in 2013?? Dec 2013 ... nobody knows even if it were "likely". I mean seriously, this speculation is 100% BS.

Who cares what Apple might do with a MacPro in 2013? It solves nothing now or yesterday (or the past few years for that matter) ... and I can assure you, in 2013 "if I need to upgrade" to the latest and greatest CPU, I can with minimal cost/effort (in most cases a CPU/motherboard swap). No waiting on Apple to decide my future or if "they feel" an update to their MacPro line is worth it. Who in a professional medium wants to be at the whim of Apple's "worthiness" BS?

If anyone wants to know the parts breakdown and costs and sources let me know. Obviously if you want to work with RED you'll need their RED Rocket card which is NOT included ;)

Oh and I have moved on:

Oh yeah, lets not forget MAXON's Cinema4D ... I'm on R13 Prime with MSA so R14 should arrive sometime soon. Great news about MAXON is they support both OSX and Windows on the same DVD so nothing lost in that transition from Mac to PC.

robains I think most get what your angst is about but honestly you have no control over it so why even bother?
I come from the professional world where you use what works.
When I need to run Maya at its best then I use my Dell or BOXX workstation.
When I want the most stable computer for Motion Design, Graphics and NLE then I go with our Mac Pros.
I can give you a laundry list but Ill dumb it down to our RED/Resolve/NLE system:

Mac Pro 2.93 with 32GB RAM
CUBIX PCI Expander
Quadro 4000 (2)
ATTO SAS
BM Extreme HD 3D Decklink
RED ROCKET (2)
Avid Symphony w/Nitris DX
Resolve 8.2.2
FCPX
FCS3

Sure you can run some of that on PC.
We are looking at the HP Z820 or the RED820 but its not feasible at the moment.
We have a workflow that works with our RED camera.
Until that breaks then we move forward.

It just doesnt make sense to whine about something we have no control over.
I go as far back as the LC III then the PowerMac then G4/G5 and now Mac Pro Intel.
They all do what we want/need to do...run a great OS that doesnt need tinkering all the time.
And no dont start with Windows 7, I use it enough and its still a headache.
We have a large tech dept that deals with it and they are always in awe at how the Macs run day to day with out something breaking.

By all means, keep using that MacPro - no angst here ;) What I'm sick of seeing are pointless rumors without any substance and a ton of conjecture ... why post conjecture? To try and retain the few die-hard fans living a dream?

You can make any OS "unstable" ... if you are finding one to be more stable than the other then you might want to consult your tech department. If one knows what one is doing, both OSX and Windows 7 are very stable. What's the headache? Turn computer one, wait a few seconds, click your application(s) icon ... both do the exact same.

Don't think I'm whining at all, trying to be helpful and provide folks with real options today and not rumors.

Workflow isn't the issue, performance is ... when one is experimenting (aka being creative) the faster that is done, the more expanded one's portfolio becomes ... it's as simple as getting to try more stuff over a defined period.

I cant get into details as I dont deal and care about the Windows 7 systems at my work.
I only deal with my own department and Im glad.
But Ill give you an example.
At home I have a Mac Pro 2.66 running Lion with everything loaded on it.
Beside that Mac Pro is a Dell Precision T3500.
Both landed at home the same week and both running constantly with almost identical apps.
Now for some weird reason I lose my mouse control on the Dell almost twice a week.
No explanation and only fix is a hard boot.
The Dell as Windows 7 using the same MS Optical (red) mouse.
Honestly why do I have to deal with that?
The only time I can brake anything on the Mac Pro is when Im constantly removing PCI cards like the Intensity Pro.
I can understand that but why the Dell has to act up when I dont run anything odd on it except for Maya, CS5.5, Avid MC and Pro Tools.
Same apps on the Mac Pro but add Apple soft.
