Apple's free Sports app received another update today with three improvements: probable starting pitchers for MLB games, car numbers in NASCAR leaderboards, and the ability to turn off sports betting odds directly within the app.

These enhancements were added in version 3.9 of the app, available now in the App Store. Turning off betting odds previously required using the Settings app.

Launched in 2024, the Apple Sports app is available on the iPhone in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, and many countries in Europe, the Caribbean, and Latin America. The app shows scores, stats, standings, and more for a variety of leagues and events, including the NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL, NASCAR, F1, Premier League, PGA TOUR, and more.

I absolutely love this app. I deleted Bleacher Report and all the other sports crap on my iPhone. Great that you can ignore all the betting stuff, too. Now if I could get Fat Tony Provenzano to lower his vig. What am I, a schmuck on wheels?

Still no Mac support should be criminal.

Well now that I can turn off betting odds I will be using the app more and allowing live activities. Absolulty vile that betting has infested everything...and it is not just sports betting.
I believe you could turn it off before, this just moves it out of settings and into the app.

But yeah, I’m right there with you and others in this thread: sports betting, and even gambling in general I believe, is a gross, vile, disgusting thing, and should either be extremely heavily regulated or outright banned entirely.

I used to use Sports App live activities on my phone. Now they just don't show up and I don't know how to bring them back to my lock screen! It's so frustrating.

It needs to add notification delays -- I always have to turn it off for games I'm watching live on streaming because it spoils results.
alternate take, you have 10-30 seconds between the alert and when something happens to get prepared to celebrate or curse your team 🙂

Add me to the list of people happy to turn the betting off, ESPN has it, Yahoo! doesn't seem to allow it completely off. I think for me the best thing with Apple Sports for right now is simply the fact you can ignore dozens of sports the others push at you that you don't care to get results for. If Apple joins the others and force every possible sport at you it might become just another sports app.

Here’s an idea: Apple TV app with support for PiP. This way, I can watch one game in TV app while “monitoring the situation” in another using Sports app.

Something folks might not know:

Providing betting odds can be useful outside of actual gambling.

I have zero interest in gambling, but I like to see the odds so that I can get a feel for how the game is expected to go.

For example, if it’s an even line, then I can usually expect a close, competitive game. If it’s not, maybe I’m looking at a blowout or a potential upset. It’s a good signal before you decide to watch.

There may be some better sports apps out there but I really like the Apple app and the way it integrates with my 15 pro.

I know that Gianni Infantino, the president of FIFA, the World governing body for soccer, is on good terms with current world leaders. But I doubt, the organization gave Tim Cook permission to make the corner and 18-yard box lines rounded, i.e. consistent with the GUI of the latest OS upgrade.
