Apple today announced that it has updated its Sports app with support for tennis, in time for the ongoing Wimbledon tournament.

Tennis fans can view live scores for Grand Slam and 1000 tournaments, and track current and previous men's and women's singles matches.

Apple Sports supports the Live Activities feature, and that extends to tennis scores. This means you can view live tennis scores at a glance on an iPhone's Lock Screen, and in the Dynamic Island on the iPhone 14 Pro and newer.

The app has also gained a revamped "Home" section. Apple says matchups and events are now grouped by league, and there are expanded controls for fans to order them how they prefer. Favorite/starred teams always appear at the top.

Last, you can now view pitcher and batter matchups at the top of every scoreboard.

Launched in February 2024, the Apple Sports app shows scores, stats, standings, upcoming games, and more for a variety of leagues. The free app is currently available on the iPhone only, in the U.S., the U.K., and Canada.

Apple Sports version 3.0 is available now in the App Store.

Wow it finally support tennis. Right before Wimbledon. I hope it’s good and not full of sports betting crap.

Can you get rid of all of the soccer BS if you don't want it at all? All I care about is college football, NFL, MLB, NBA, college softball/baseball

Did they fix the issue where it continues to push spoilers of Formula 1 races onto my Lock Screen even after I've changed the setting to "not display live activities" for Formula 1 only to have it reset multiple times?

Keeps getting better!
I do have one complaint which affects all of these type of apps. I wish I could put in some sort of delay on notifications. I watch a lot of sports streaming now and because it is buffered (sometimes seconds sometimes minutes) I often get alerts before I get to see them on TV! I'll be watching a Diamondbacks game on MLB.tv and get an alert that Marte hit a home run while I'm still watching the previous batter ground out...

This is the problem with their model across the board related to sports. When I indicate I like a baseball team on my phone my family is forever interrupted with updates while they are trying to watch Bluey or a movie on the Apple TV. The process of dealing with this is buggy and just plain opaque. It needs to be less "magic" and more "this is how it works, and clearly how you can disable undesired functionality".

I am hoping the new "select profiles" feature in tvOS 26 solves this. I'm setting up a profile for my kid and HOPE that those alerts go away. I've had the exact same experience (also while watching Bluey: "Daddy! What's that say? Why is it there" 🤣)

YES! My favorite example of this was while I was watching Europa League finals on my phone, the Sports app live activity popped up, covering the right side of my view of the game to let me know about a goal that hadn't happened yet.

I tried to swipe it away so I could at least see the goal happen "live" and instead it sent me to the Sports App.

I WAS WATCHING THE MATCH and I missed the goal because the Sports told me about it...

I've since turned off the live activities and notifications and now just use it to check scores when I want.

If you just favorite your sport, you don't see the other sports. Choose "My Leagues" from the dropdown, then you can scroll left or right to view all your favorite sports. I never see soccer.

Hm. I think it's bugged for me. I click "Get started" and it just keeps kicking back to the same screen.

This might be the best app for sports that I have.... love the clickable links to the Hockey game in SportsNet, GEM, etc..... (obviously in canada). Just works slick. Its easy, simple, quick, and useful. I would love if it was Car Play compatible.

Even in my profile... If i'm watching an engaging movie or TV show, I don't need sports updates on the TV. Further, just tried the sports app again... Cannot really do much unless you agree to have notifications for the things you follow on ALL of your stuff. It is just too agressive. I just want to check scores on the app, please don't force things on to me in every corner of my digital existence.

I tried this when it first came out. I liked a lot of it but at the end of the day, the constant notifications are what forced me to delete it. Regardless the settings it was too annoying, esp if you were actually watching said game live

I have also experienced this. There has to be a way for the ecosystem to know, on one device or on multiple devices if I am watching the game live don't push alerts. It would be nice if live activities would have an alternate live activities view that would show stats or something else. Use some of the metrics they use on their broadcasts. That would be true Apple Intelligence. And also add the ability to set live updates to delay for a customizable time.
