Does anyone have a link for the Apple SSD? I had a quick look on their store, but didn't see any? Maybe I'm blind.

However, another vote for the Samsung 830, will be a little rocket.

2012
I have more Macs but these two in my signature are the one that I use most
I might be getting a MBP 15" 2.7 Ghz, still deciding though

as stated already by T5BRICK I would buy a SATAIII anyhow so he can transfer it into a new laptop when he decides it's time to buy a new one.

Yeah the OP has a SATAII since its 2010 so he's not going to get that speed.

I do not think that Apple will sell and ship to you just a SSD you have to bring your MB to a AS.
Go and check the MBP page on the AS, click on the link "buy now" choose a MBP 15" and click on the customizing option link, you should have a list of components that Apple would let you purchase to make your own Mac, you should be able to find the SSD and the prices for them.

I wouldn't worry not achieving SATAIII speeds with a 830 the difference with your old HD would be enough to make you happy.

OP will get all the speeds listed up to 270MB/s. Which is more than 80% of tests. Only thing not getting is some sequentials in Uncached Write and Uncached Read. Only a small reduction. They'll get all the random speeds. Which is what a boot disk uses primarily.

Well for his model, I actually prefer the v4 which is a bit cheaper compared to M4.

And a bunch slower in everything. Let's please stop thinking that sequential bandwidth is even remotely important in speed ranking for boot drives. It is what manufacturers tout but it means the least.
