Why do you want support for a dead format? xvid is dead... hell even those dodgy downloads online are coming x264 instead of xvid now.

Also Plex is supported now albeit unofficially.

Cause I have older stuff I would like to play.

Yes, Plex officially so I don't have to worry about jailbreaking to get it installed.

Apple don't really give a **** about the UK. They don't bother doing a proper British layout keyboard on the Mac, British English dictionary has only just become British English, and the AppleTV totally ignores all the big UK streaming services you mentioned.

I can watch iPlayer on my internet connected TV, on my FreeSAT PVR, and my Blu-Ray player.

Both my ATVs run non-Apple software to make them useful. I doubt I'd have either if they weren't just neat little boxes running XBMC.

Spot on! I was going to get another Apple TV but why bother. You can get a Raspberry Pi for £20 that runs XBMC. Much cheaper, and you can do so much more with it as its a Linux machine!

Not bad since brand new ones are $89 and free shipping.

So how would you play Angry Birds? The remote? Mouse? Trackpad? No iOS apps have any method for playing them on an AppleTV. I think maybe that's why none are available. It's an iOS operating system, but more of a Mac device.

they could make a new remote for Apple TV so you can play click wheel games or something like that, anyways I was just dreaming it probably won't happen but I would love if it did.

I got a Boxee Box so i could do this. It does pretty much everything but i hate the netflix interface.

Of course if the Apple TV 3 is announced to have at least 1080p and more media support. I'll ditch the Boxeebox in a heartbeat.

Boxee is very nice but I prefer the flexibility of XBMC on a cheap HTPC so I can watch UFC on FoxSports or Facebook or anything else. Boxee or The Popcorn Hour are on the top of my list for my TV in the basement.

The problem is most on demand / tv services that are online need Flash, and Apple being stupidly stubborn wont allow that.

The issue that Adobe hasn't been able to create a stable version of Flash for any Mobile OS would show that the decision by Apple isn't perhaps that stupid after all

It seems pretty guaranteed that Apple are going to announce an update to the Apple TV.

Though I doubt that it will just be a few minor upgrades, like upgrading to 1080p - just doesn't seem like Apple.

It's got to have something that makes it worthwhile, be it new content deals or apps.

With the iPhone, the 3G to 3GS, or 4 to 4S, though hardware just received few minor upgrades, it's the new software features that are the big deal, and I think the same has got to happen here with a new Apple TV.

What'ya think the chances are that they'll push out :apple:TV3 's software enhancements to :apple:TV2 ?

[Software only, of course. Excluding Siri, if applicable.]

Being able to use a number of apps would most certainly be the best upgrade possible.

Flash for TV boxes however is perfectly stable...

Hence why I brought it up.

But this is a 'tv box' that is running iOS, same as the iPads and iPhones.

Thats irrelevant. If Apple pulled their finger out, we could have had a huge amount of content for the AppleTV already as all it requires is flash. They dont have to release it for the iPhone/iPad.

If apple are going to utilize ANY UK on demand service, they need flash on the box, period. So far the Apple TV in the UK has just been a 'card' to watch iTunes content. Other than that its useless.

Also I'm not sure where you found out flash for mobile was unstable. It's perfectly stable on Android. Just because Apple refused to allow it (rightly so) on iOS, it doesn't immediately condem it as being an unstable product when used elsewhere.

Just like they need Flash so they can add Hulu, Netflix, YouTube

Oh wait, no they didn't. There are apps for all that. There's even an app for your precious BBC. All of which don't and have never needed Flash

That age is over, face the music and get over your obsession that Flash is the only solution, cause it ain't.

You dont get it at all here do you.

Firstly, I hate flash with a passion.

Secondly, this is immensely different to the 'apps' we have for our phones and pads.

The AppleTV wouldnt be compatible with existing apps, thats already been established. The 'touch' interface is non-existant, all we have to work with is a remote.

In addition, why would the likes of the BBC pay to write a whole new app for such a low popularity device, when people can spend a tiny amount and get a freeview box with it built in.
