This is 100% the way to handle Visual Intelligence before getting into full AR glasses. This would be Apple's response to Meta RayBan glasses. They're not AR, just POV cameras on your head with AI in your ears.

An Apple Watch housing the computational engine with AirPods handling audio input and output as well as visual input, is a near complete AI stack.

Look in the mirror while wearing AirPods Pro. Each eye can see the stem of the AirPod on their respective side. Together, they complete a full 180º field of view.
It would let Apple use smaller glasses. But it's not that much smaller with technology at the moment.

Expecting this to be available only on the Pro model. Hope that there will not be any increase in price due to addition of these cameras. Also not so sure on how useful this will be.

even cooler would be to put two hologram projectors into the AirPods that can then project an augment reality display in front of your face

oh well, maybe in 2036

Can we get cameras in the Apple Watch please instead of these?? FaceTime would be cool on your wrist!!
This would be a day one purchase for me.

I often go running and leave my phone behind these days and there are times I’d love to just take a quick snapshot selfie - say, at a running event, or because I run by a landmark. The one thing I miss is not being able to snapshot selfies on my runs.

I wonder why Apple never put an infrared camera on the iPhones. Wouldn't that be a first for any device maker?
No. CAT and a few others already have infrared cameras on their phones. But I do think if Apple would do it, it would be a first on a device for the maintstream market (those other brands target specific buyers).

1. Its for body temperature measurement and likely ear canal pulse measurement, not for visual intelligence.
2. It would be a stupid design to put cameras on air pods for the purposes of visual intelligence.

I was just thinking of a use for the cameras - to alert users of incoming traffic …Imagine the world in future with many near silent electric vehicles & combine that with people wondering the streets in their own AirPods enclosed worlds…It’d help prevent many collisions I’d think.

Think of it like a car’s advanced reverse sensors that alert you early of cars approaching from the sides before you even start to reverse, only for people who are about to cross the road.
