Following the release of iOS 14.4.2 on March 26, Apple has stopped signing iOS 14.4.1, the previously available version of iOS 14. With iOS 14.4.1 no longer being signed, it is not possible to downgrade to iOS 14.4.1 from iOS 14.4.2 if you've already updated your iPhone or iPad.

Apple routinely stops signing older versions of software updates after new releases come out in order to encourage customers to keep their operating systems up to date.

iOS 14.4.1 was a security update that addressed a WebKit vulnerability that could allow maliciously crafted web content to execute code. iOS 14.4.2 is also a security update that addresses a vulnerability where processing maliciously crafted web content could lead to universal cross site scripting.

Apple said that the vulnerability addressed in iOS 14.4.2 was actively exploited in the wild, so those who have not updated should do so.

iOS 14.4.2 is the current publicly available version of iOS that people can download, but Apple has also provided iOS 14.5 to developers and public beta testers for testing purposes. iOS 14.5 is one of the biggest updates to ‌‌iOS 14‌‌ to date, introducing a feature for unlocking an ‌iPhone‌ when wearing a mask with an Apple Watch, adding Dual-SIM 5G support, introducing compatibility with the latest gaming controllers, and more.

Should be 14.4.2 I think. :) otherwise thanks for the informative update!

If there is ever ONE Class Action lawsuit I want, it's suing Apple over this signing OS BS. How dare you disable my iPhone apps and tell me you love me! This is the biggest load of BS I've ever heard of legally. How can they get away with it? Yes, I'm still mad since the IOS 10/11 switch and the batterygate and I'm not going to get over it. Apple screwed me over on both of those and the grudge is still long lasting. Mainly because nobody has sued them over this and they're going to do it again. They'll at some point release the M128 chip and all your 64 bit apps will just disappear like Avengers Infinity War!

So sue them instead of waiting for some one else to do it.

Yeah, I’m updating all my devices to 14.4.2 before 14.5 comes out, just in case they don’t manage to fix all the bugs they introduced with 14.5 in time for the release (which is very close).

They own the software. You do not. As such, they can stop signing any iOS release they want.

You claim to hate it so much and yet, you continue buying Apple products. It makes your claim rather hollow.

Any attempt would quickly die, not reading the T&C is on you. What is likely is a class action suit that would happen if Apple didn’t force users to use security updates that resulted in real losses to individuals and businesses.

I second to this “update to the latest” bs. My Windows 10 machine only receives security updates and some driver updates. No feature update until I feel I am ready. iOS at this point still bundles feature update with security update. iOS 14.5 May change that but only time will tell.

For me if it ain’t break, don’t fix it. I don’t want a buggy update to ruin my entire machine. Everyone has their own life and spending time troubleshooting software update issue is probably not one of them.

I thought Windows10 updates (spring update, fall update) were unavoidable. Sooner or later your PC updates to the latest build... Is there a way to prevent that?

AFAIK: If Apple stops signing iOS, it doesn't mean that your install of iOS stops working. It means, that you cannot install this version again (for example if you DFU restore or want to downgrade).
iOS also doesn't force updates as far as I know.

With Windows 10 on the other hand, you can always revert the big updates and you can also install Windows 10 from older ISOs without issues. And yeah, there are ways to permanently stop updates from installing. But not on Win 10 Home. Win 10 Pro and up can do that, though it's not straightforward and tricky to do.

Edit: Setting your main connection to metered should stop automatic updates on Windows. Not sure how long it will cooperate this way.

I purchased the device. I OWN IT! Disabling it is NOT in the purchase agreement. Or maybe you can show me where such a thing is?

And even if it is in the purchase agreement, even that would not hold up in court!

My battery died and Apple forced IOS 11 on me disabling half of my apps, and then they had the nerve to CHARGE me FULL PRICE for the new battery too! YES, Apple installed IOS 11 on my iPhone. I never did. They did not return the device in the manner that I sent it into them damaged. I sent it to them with IOS 10 on it and everything working except the battery.

You do not own the software that comes with the phone (iOS) nor do you own any apps purchased from the App Store. If you had created the operating system found on the iPhone, you would own the rights thereto. The same with any app you create.

Windows 10 enterprise can delay feature update for up to a year. LTSC can make sure your version will not receive any feature update requests, and will continue to receive security updates within 5 years. Sadly both are for business and enterprise market, so activation is going to be tricky. I’m a bit lucky so I take advantage of that.

Fine, then give me an option to unlock this device that i paid for so i can install whatever software and/or OS that I want.

So all I want to know is..............was it 14.1 that caused my email to stop working?

So the app developer dies not maintain their app, and this is Apples fault how? If a os security patch stops the app from working the app has issues

For people who are using iOS 14 (iOS 14.0 to iOS 14.4.1), this update can be considered as a “fix”. For anyone who are still stuck at iOS 12/13 for whatever reason, this “fix” essentially mean they can no longer enjoy their favourite system and will be forced to use iOS 14, if they want their device patched for this vulnerability.

Oh, you mean nobody is using iOS 12/13 on iOS supported devices? Well good for them then.
