After the launch of iOS 16.2 on December 13, Apple has stopped signing iOS 16.1.2, the previously available version of iOS. With iOS 16.1.2 no longer being signed, it is no longer possible to downgrade to an earlier version of iOS after installing the iOS 16.2 update.

Apple routinely stops signing older versions of software updates after new releases come out in order to encourage customers to keep their operating systems up to date, which means it is not unusual that the updates are no longer being signed.

iOS 16.1.2 was a minor update that added improved compatibility with wireless carriers and crash detection optimizations on iPhone 14 models.

The iOS 16.2 update that replaces it is the biggest update to iOS 16 we've seen yet, with Apple adding the Freeform app, support for Apple Music Sing, expanded iCloud encryption with Advanced Data Protection, and much more, with all of the changes outlined in our dedicated iOS 16.2 guide.

So, is 16.2 good (stable) enough to update from 15.7.1?
Was thinking about waiting until 16.2.1 :)

It’s miles better than any 16.0-16.1 versions. So who cares about Apple stop signing those versions. :)

iOS 16.2 rolls out the 10 minute air drop limitation that was enforced in other countries. I suppose more restrictions will come to the US version of iOS in the near future. o_O

weird 16.1.1 is still signed as of now. expect it to also go quick

edit: 16.1.1 no longer signed

Now you have iOS 15.7.2 and iOS 16.2 to choose from.
Is iOS 15.7.2 still available for devices that are compatible with 16.2 though?
Strangely, iPadOS 15.7.2 showed up on my iPad Air 4 just a couple of days ago. Meanwhile, iOS 16.2 is the only option for my 13 pro.

Apple should always allow you to downgrade to the version the iPhone was shipped with, because that is the package you bought for your hard earned money. It does not matter if it is wise to downgrade, but some people may discover at a later point that a new version has a limitation compared to the old one. For example that 10 minute limit for air drop or simply more and more ads.

I personally hardly ever do any updates. For my Android smartphone I bought in 2018 several updates were offered since then, but I did not install any of them, as it is difficult to revert them on my phone. I also block all updates of Windows, because Windows updates in the past often made things worse. For photo editing I still use Photoshop CS2, which came out 17 years ago. It can do most of the things I want and I do not want any AI stuff from the newer versions anyway.

Wait. my iPad and iPhone and tvOS are glitchy. However, the e2e option is what made me jump immediately. Gotta keep the g/f photos safe 🫣😬🤫

On my iPhone 8, I'm stuck with 15.7.1. I don't want to upgrade to 16.2 and Apple refuses to release 15.7.2 and its security updates to me. Complete crap on Apple's part! My iPhone 6s+, which I use as a backup, got the 15.7.2 release, so it's technically more secure than my newer phone. Rediculous!

It's on you that you don't want to upgrade to 16.2 - for reasons of your own choosing.

Just curious, why do you think, you have severe security issues just because the phone stays at 15.7.1 instead of 15.7.2? I don’t think there is critical and widespread security issues fixed in 15.7.2 but not (yet) in 15.7.1.
