Apple today stopped signing iOS 18.2.1, which means that iPhone users who have upgraded to iOS 18.3 can no longer downgrade to the prior version of iOS 18. Apple released iOS 18.3 a week ago.

When new versions of iOS are released, Apple stops signing the prior version after a week or two. An update that is not signed is not able to be installed on an iPhone because there is a server-side software verification check. As of right now, iPhone models compatible with iOS 18 are only eligible to download and run iOS 18.3.

By preventing customers from downgrading to older versions of iOS, Apple ensures that devices are kept up to date with the newest security improvements.

Apple's iOS 18.3 update included a handful of Apple Intelligence updates and more than 20 security updates. One of those fixes addressed a vulnerability that may have been actively exploited on some devices, demonstrating why it is important to keep iOS software up to date.

There's nowhere to go but update/upgrade... Or stick with the old version you are still using...

Saw a video yesterday recommending to NOT upgrade to 18.3 due the automatic integration of Starlink. So afraid of Musk, suddenly it’s not able to downgrade anymore.
Like anyone uses GlobalStar 911 satellite texting on a regular basis? Ignore that video and update to 18.3 for all the iOS security changes. :)

Keep in mind this is only for T-mobile customers who opt into the beta.

Sooner or later you’re gonna HAVE to update your software.

If you’re worried about Musk, I would say drop T-mobile.

Verizon is using Skylo for their upcoming satellite text service on certain phones and just dumped a bag of money into AST SpaceMobile so it looks like big red is moving I their own direction that doesn’t involve Spacelink.

I behave as though every bit of data I send and every word I speak in the presence of a digital device is listened to because that capability all ready exists.
