I have NEVER updated an iPhone since having my first one, the 3G, and wished I went back a version of iOS. Even during jailbreak days I couldn't wait until they exploited the newest iOS.

Do you have a link you can share that explains this process and what it required?

Or, perhaps elaborate a bit more? Is an expired ipsw is restored with iTunes I think generally the final step is “Verifying restore with Apple” which would fail, and no opportunity to install an MDM profile is given?

Well, I was addressing this to a YubiKey user. ;)
I get ya, but there are many apps which become broken after OS updates. This could benefit a lot of people. If they knew what you were talking about. 😉

I mean, it’s not difficult to google for anyone interested. Probably even ChatGPT can explain it. Knowing that there is a workaround is the most important information.

I attempted searching for such documentation, as well as querying ChatGPT and did not get a useful response. I am unsure if you activated a specific setting in the MDM (which I would assume yes) or were referring to an MDM profile simply being present would extend the signing requirement.

I am also unsure how an old ipsw file could be placed on the device, because in this scenario the MDM profile must be added after configuration and iOS is up and running.

Any tips you can provide would be appreciated.

thanks

When a point release of iOS 18 broke yubikey functionality I was locked out of my passwords and iCloud briefly. And because Apple stopped signing the previous version before I figured all this out it created a huge pain in my butt. And that's why I got rid of my personal 16 PM and got an S24 Ultra. I can't have some update flippantly borking my security. I still have my Macs, a work 16 PM and iPads. But this ruined it for my daily driver.
Does the S24 Ultra allow downgrading to previous OS versions indefinitely?
