Apple today updated its Apple Store app to add Dark Mode support, allowing the app to feature a darker interface when Dark Mode is enabled on an iPhone or iPad.

The Apple Store app is Apple's dedicated app for purchasing new Apple products and scheduling Today at Apple sessions on the iPhone and the iPad, and a Dark Mode option will be welcome given the increased usage of the app as retail stores remain closed.

Apple has been slowly adding Dark Mode options to all of its apps after introducing the feature in iOS and iPadOS 13. Most recently, the Apple Support app was updated with Dark Mode support, with Apple implementing the feature in late April.

The Apple Store app can be downloaded from the App Store for free. [Direct Link]

Great, now go update the Trailers app to properly support the current-gen iPad Pro’s. Having letterboxing on all sides is pretty ugly.

Embarrassing that some 1st party apps don’t get updated to fully support current devices for years.

Dark mode support is great, but I wish that you weren’t forced to update the Apple Store app every time a new version comes out.

For whatever reason, you can only use your iCloud account for the Apple Store App with this latest update. You have to logout of iCloud to change that. That means I cannot use my other Apple ID with the app anymore and the app automatically changes to the iCloud Apple ID after the update. What kind of ******** is that?

Guess they were waiting to see if dark mode was popular before updating their app.

I have this problem too. What the flip Apple have you done now!!

Q: Is there any way to change the Apple ID you use inside the app, to NOT be your iCloud one??

Like millions of other users, I use separate iCloud and Store Apple ID's (thanks to legacy that Apple refuse to even acknowledge, never mind address!)

This now completely screws-up being able to use the sodding thing on any of my iOS devices! No really Apple, this is the stupidest forced decision yet, you've really outdone yourselves with how much you can infuriate customers, yet further?!?

I’m keeping the dark mode constantly on and I’m glad everything is adapting to it.
I still don’t understand why some web pages aren’t 🤷🏻‍♂️
On my Galaxy S10 every web page is in dark mode, when activated on the system. On my iPhone some are (like Macrumors) other are still white.

I have the same Problem. I am using my regular Apple ID for all those things and using my former MobilMe Account as iCloud only account. I don`t know why they are forcing us to the iCloud Account.
Yesteday I ordered a few things online with my Main Apple ID and now I am not even able to see the my orders on my App. I really need to use the mobile Version.

Just leave a negative Rating in the store and I hope many will do the same so Apple will see it.

Same here. I always use another AppleID for my orders. Not even sure why I do that historically, but for some reason I do. This is some BS.

Is this to prevent multiple pre-orders of the iPhone 12 or something come fall? For most people I can see how this streamlines things, but would be nice to have the option to switch to another account without signing out of iCloud. I know there is the web store etc.

So we got a nice new dark mode, but with the huge caveat of no longer being able to use our historical Apple Store account.. well done Apple! You've made the app useless for many of us.
If I could merge my historical Apple Store/App Store account to my iCloud account, I would do it and it would solve this caveat. But I understand that it is impossible.

How do you figure that? 😂 Dark mode was popular years before Apple adopted it. This app took ages because it's loads of web views.

They had support for dark mode in web content too, maybe it wasn't a priority and it took longer to update the pages.

I dont use iCloud, just personal preference, each time Apple pushes me towards being forced to do things, like having to remove this app which is now useless to me, means I'm one more step from walking away from Apple. We should be allowed to use our devices how we like. I have backups on my iMac for my iPad and iPhone and that's what I am happy with, I'm not happy however with how Apple dictates how I should use my phone by doing things like this...

You can read more on Safari/WebKit/Apple's approach to Dark Mode on the web here. Basically, they won't force a website to use Dark Mode unless the site says it can do Dark Mode and has the appropriate styles for Dark Mode.

Yup, it's back to the internet browser for any Apple purchases on iOS for me as well. However, if this carries over to the App Store app, I'm screwed with iTunes no longer managing iOS apps (even the iTunes 12.6.5 hack on Mojave and earlier stopped working sort-off a few weeks ago, one can still browse and apparently purchase iOS apps there but they don't download anymore and neither do any app updates).

I'm glad that the Apple Store has added some support for Dark Mode but go to some categories and product pages and you'll be blinded by all of the white backgrounds. Someone call me when they have truly embraced Dark Mode in the app.
