My first visit to the Apple Store in Florence Italy.
Video bombed by a llama.

Bland and clinical. Anytime I walk into an Apple store I feel as if I'm at the doctors or a hospital.

How did - or did - the inimitable sense of style one sees in Italy have any sort of impact or effect on the design of the Apple store?

I don't mind 'bland and clinical' as long as there is also competence and a desire to be of assistance.

Sadly, is was mostly as Zenithal stated. This could have been an Apple store in any city of the world. The only difference was the large front glass overlooked a view of a statue laden courtyard that was very much florence. The bicycles, little electric cars, people walking, very nice.

A pity, because Italy is one of the few countries in the world where the mundane and the sort of things (cars, coffee pots, tiles, and so on) in everyday use are beautifully designed; I'm sure Apple could have found a way to celebrate their own minimalist aesthetic while acknowledging the supreme talent of Italian design - which, at its best is that wonderful fusion of form and function.

I was in NYC once just happened to be passing the Apple store by Central Park and decided to go in. I think by virtue of the large glass cube, it’s considered to be iconic. It is different because the store despite the cube on a small plaza, the store itself is below street level. After going down the escalator, and pushing through the standing room only masses, and seeing what I’ve seen multiple times before, Apple products, I exited forthwith. Sometimes it’s alarming just how full these stores can get. It was a brilliant move by Steve Jobs to open them. :)

Hit the new Chicago location this Christmas

Angela Ahrendts' influence is obvious. It's really neat to feel like you're outside looking at the river, but you're warm inside.
