Well I just had a rough time with the Apple Store, which was diffused by my girlfriend (gotta love her).

I had just bought a Rev B air from a reseller, and I didn't particularly like the quality I got it in. It had the lines issue, the infamous wobble, and also black grease that formed on the top of the display bezel.

I didn't know whether I would get this repaired since I bought it from a reseller, but I tried anyway. Needless to say, my first visit to the Apple Store was not very pleasant. They actually didn't do anything but flexed the aluminum to fix the wobble. They tried to clean the grease with alcohol, and that didn't work, so they said that they couldn't do anything for me.

I'm not one to deal with irritating people, so I just left before I fumed at the guy for handling my Air like it was a cheap whore. I told my girlfriend about it and she was pretty mad that they did that (also she has the black spots on her display bezel so she wanted to see what Apple would do about it).

Next thing I know, she was bringing my Air and hers to the next Apple Store and I have two Genius Bar Work Authorization papers for repairs. They apparently are going to replace both our macbooks' screens, and they ordered a new bottom for my wobble.

I swear, so many things take a woman's touch. I just wanted to share my experience so that others know you can get the wobble and black smudge repaired. I've read several forums that say otherwise. One thing that seemed to help though was having that one Genius who flexed my laptop. They said that normally, they would make customers pay for a replacement bottom, but since the last Apple Store fudged with the bottom already, then they had to replace it for free.

I'll post on for further experiences.

Generally, I've found that some gals have a much higher tolerance for emotional stress. So in some social situations that can be very stressful, they are right at home.

    (Sorry ladies :D )

I wish I could take a photo of it, but my digital camera just broke. Think about how a black sharpie would look if you smudged it on aluminum.

This reproduces itself in straight lines next to my isight camera. It's in the form of my trackpad button. If you look closely at my palm wrests they are there as well.

The worst part about this problem is that it seems to tear the matte aluminum off, and create a shine. So if you are under sunlight, the black gleans and is very noticeable.

It's sad but true. Send a hot girl to the genius bar and they'll do whatever it takes to fix the problem. They need more female genius' at the bar so us guys can pull the same tricks :)

Hah! I'm sure that was dripping with sarcasm ;) Never underestimate the power of a sly smile or a flirty eye when it comes to service though.

Ya um have your girlfriend flash the genius to get what you want. ;)

Most of the girls I know have figured out a tight fitting low-cut tank top is the way to get what you want. :D

Maybe go back to where you bought it from....or contact Apple Care (I'm assuming you have a warranty on it)

At this point, it sounds like it's too late to offer us up a picture of the flaws on your macbooks, but at the very least, I think you should post a picture of this girlfriend. ;)

lol as it may seem to pertain to your situation, i just found that if you act really aggressive and call the manager if they dont do what you want that always works.. then they end up giving you free stuff too lol

Your girlfriend caused your rough time to diffuse from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration?

    Couldn't resist!

haha yeah, from high concentration of trash, to a zero trash Apple Store.

Great, thanks for pointing that out. My girlfriend is actually studying chemistry and does research at the University of Texas, so she might give me a rough time about that mistake.

I'll post a picture once I get home, and hopefully I have one with her on her mac.

So I said I would give an update whenever they would finish repairing my laptop but it's actually still not done. I received a call today from Apple telling me that the last technician stripped a screw on my MBA. Now it will take around another 5-8 days for them to repair it. They say that they cannot fix this in store and have to send it out.

I am deeply annoyed, and in need of my laptop today!

One of the reasons I am annoyed is that my pictures are on that laptop. The only other copies I have of those pictures are sitting in a time machine backup. I don't think I'm able to navigate through that ... or can I?

Nope, you can't. You need it to be plugged into the computer you backed it up on I believe.... actually, you MAY be able to navigate through them on another machine... I just know that Time Machine backups are tied to the MAC address of the machine they back up to. I had my logic board replaced and lost all my previous backups since Time Machine did not recognize my new MAC address.... I suppose it's a security thing? But I'm not sure how if you are able to view the files on another machine... look into it and get back to us :p

No, this is incorrect. That would be a HUGE flaw in a backup program, if you were not able to access your backed up data because your computer stopped working or was destroyed or stolen. One of the main points of making backups is for precisely these cases.

You can browse through your time machine backup from any computer. Just attach the Time Machine backup drive to some other Mac, and use Finder to browse through the latest backup. In Finder, navigate to
    /BackupDrive/Backups.backupdb/YourComputerName/latest-backup-date
and there you'll find a full snapshot of your computer's hard drive from the last time you backed up.

Ok yeah, I corrected myself kind of.

You can't backup with a different MAC address though... it'll create new backups and you will lose all of your previously backed up files. (Can't access them from Time Machine itself, only through the drive which would kinda be a pain if you don't know where they are...)

Okay so in hopes to recapture my audience, or really not, here are some pics of the beaut. One's a pic of her and her family that i cropped out, and the other is a photo shoot that a girl did randomly, I think for a project. I just like to have one set of candid her, and 'posing' her.

Oh and to update, she actually sped the genius' up to fix up my laptop in one day instead of five. Goes to show that you should not trust what some genius's say.

I got my MBA back shiny, without scratches. However, after just a week, I noticed the black stuff on my bezel again. It seems that this is actually the trackpad button scratching the bezel. Also, while I was using the laptop on my lap, a screw fell out. I had to redo all the screws since they were all loose (at least 4 extra spins until reasonably tight).

I don't know whether I should even care about the bezel problem anymore, not until it gets bad again, I guess. I can't go without my laptop again.
