I can’t think of any reason that would compel me to go into an Apple Store these days. It’s no longer 2006.
Same. I moved from a country that never had any to one that does recently. I visited a store in my 2nd week, was too crowded and loud. Seems like I didn't miss much.

Even as recently as 2012/2013, the Apple Store was still a great place to shop. Now it’s just another botique store in a mall nowhere near me, like Teavana or the Tesla showroom.

6 of the 8 Apple Stores in my state (Virginia) are within an hour of each other. I have not been to Tysons since they did the redesign, but some of them are pretty awful, crowded, and loud. I'm looking at you Fair Oaks, Clarendon and Pentagon City. Reston, you're a gem - never change.

Is Reston worth the extra 20 minutes' drive, as compared to Montgomery Mall and Bethesda Row (which are both about an hour away, for context)? Bethesda Row is where I had those really good experiences in 2012/2013 that I mentioned in a prior post, but the parking situation down there is kind of crazy, so when I do go, I usually just end up going to Montgomery Mall or even Micro Center a few miles away.

Edit: going a step further, the very sound reasoning for stores even existing doesn’t make much sense anymore. Apple products are everywhere from Costco to Best Buy. Gone are the days when a dedicated retail presence could afford some much needed limelight to their products. Is this really the best way to spend the money and time these days is all I’m saying. It’s not the same since they hired Browett and Ahrendts. Those two gutted the one spectacular reason to visit: technical specialists that weren’t compelled by sales. Now any old specialist can be a genius. It’s all so watered down
Agreed on that last point, these used to be more than just stores/shopping places. Hardware specialists. Software specialists who were also actual creatives when they weren't doing their day job at Apple.

They tried to keep up the education bit with awkward community classes events for things like GarageBand on iOS that you might see two or three people sitting through, often times out of guilt.

“Southeastern US”? Huntsville isn’t a tiny obscure city, they have over 200k people and are one of the fastest growing cities in the US lol
Also a major aerospace and high tech hub. Too many people locked into outdated stereotypes.

Haha, no kidding! I lived in Birmingham for several years until 2019, and never heard anyone refer to anywhere in the state as southeastern.
I remember a friend was going to come to Birmingham to visit a friend of mine. They literally asked "Can I fly right into Birmingham?" Oh you sure can! And we just got paved runways so much smoother landings! I hear we're gon' git some paved streets soon, just like Californy!

Have you been to Bridge Street? Hardly dying. Heck, a more traditional mall across town, Parkway Place seems to be doing just fine as well.

Yes I did actually. Big difference between now and 10 years ago. Lots of empty storefronts along the original pedestrian mall area. Everything either moved over or moved away.
