Huh, odd that it's down worldwide but may I suggest that everyone tries to keep their expectations in check this time? That way, if there is a brand shiny new MBP or other surprises when it all comes back up, it's like Christmas morning and there'll be magic in the air instead of a raging torrent of bitter disapointment and shattered dreams... :D

Are you new?

/sarcasm ;)

There will be bitter rage regardless.

Nah, but hope springs eternal and all that jazz...

One thing I'm really looking forward to when the US comes back up is finding out how exactly Apple have classified the iPad and where that puts it in the education discount scheme of things. That's the one big unanswered question at this point and will, for me anyway, be the likely tipping point between jumping in to the first gen or waiting a while to see how it all pans out.

Edit - And as I post that, the UK store comes back... with a slightly squiffy layout and nothing new. The US store does show the iPad though and... no education discount. Bugger. New products seem to be the iPad, keyboard dock, case, regular dock, power adaptor and dock to VGA cable.

Further Edit - Guh, really hope they've pulled the trigger a bit early, the top section with the iPods, iPhone and iPad looks terrible. Nothing lined up, big empty space everywhere and the top menu bar well and trully broken... yeuch.

Or not well until tuesday then

Wow, you almost had me goin' there... or not. :)

I really don't understand what the deal is... its getting REALLY hard for me to recommend a C2D processor when everybody else has iWhatevers...

(Kind of ironic, huh? Apple used to the only one with iWhatevers... now they're the ones that DON'T have it.)

Today aside, since the chances of a Friday update were basically zero anyway, Apple is getting to the point where hubris and perhaps even sheer arrogance are starting to manifest.

Leaving sh*t on the shelves, unchanged, for over one year (Mac Pro), in the technology industry, is abhorrent. Eight month cycle for portables? Also pretty pathetic without any upgrades at all or price drops?

Apple's losing its ability to innovate, and it's starting to really take its customer base for granted.

I'm convinced we will see nothing until June, when Jobs throws us a rotten bone of what will then be an outdated 330M or ATI 4xxx video card in the MBPs, and when everyone else will be starting to look beyond Core i5/i7; if they wait until June, Intel will probably already have the second generation of Core out while Apple gets around to putting in a low-end i5.

And USB 3.0? Well, if Intel's going to delay support until mid 2011, you can mark my words--Apple won't adopt it until mid 2012, and won't release a USB 3.0 iPod until September 2012.

Bumped screen resolutions? IPS panels? Keep dreaming. As long as people fork over $2k-$3k for nine month old C2D technology, there is no incentive for Apple to make any improvements except for the absolute bare minimum processor and GPU upgrades, when they are already a cycle behind.
