Yeah, It was quite a cool place to work, but after a few months I realised 'work' wasn't for me 🙂 Did i deal with you at any point?

Not really - I did a brief stint as an engineer there earlier this year and you started in the stock-room the week I left, so we used to squeeze past each other in the corridor.

When did you get promoted to engineer?

A week and a half before I quit I was told I had an 'engineer's hands' offered (and accepted) the job, but Simon was in hospital so I wasn't actually given a contract yet - after a week and a half I remembered that I only took the work experience to better my mac knowledge before moving on to music. So technically I was never a contracted engineer, but had I been given on contract on time/stayed on I would have been ^.^ I was doing most of the engineering work that went on in MR Systems for a while, after you left(i thought i noticed you at the opening too, just behind me in the Q) and the only other full-time engineer was some annoying welsh or scottish guy who never did any work, and made it harder for me to get mine (and his) done. I doubt he was working there much longer.

There was a Scottish engineer who was still there in May when I went back to pick up a new eMac from them, and in fact he's still there now because I saw him in the queue as well and we chatted for a while. It's strange that you say he never did any work, because he always had his hands buried in a machine while I was there.

I saw a couple of other full timers in May who had been there in February, although one was on leave and then off sick for the short time I was working there so I never actually met him. So when were you in the workshop? Presumably it was after May, and also presumably the other two full timers must have left.

More pics of the opening...

I've finally got around to putting my pics online - I probably ought to filter them a bit more but just haven't had the time, i've been sleeping too much for some strange reason!

I said I'd get them up sometime Sunday and it looks like I just about have, enjoy!

Can't get it to work yet miock, let me know when you can get it up 🙂

Hope it is worth is, are we in it?

The lazy guy actually worked there before you left, even Tony noticed and asked me to keep an eye on him, as he'd keep walking in and see him browsing the net on the workshop computer, never working.
My memory isn't great, as you can tell by the fact I don't remember that scottish guys name, but I'd have started working in the 'shop shortly after you left, as there was the space.
By two other full timers, do you mean Ben and... the guy who was just coming in for a couple of months until MR had enough staff? Ben was occasionally doing repairs, but very infrequently, a couple of afternoons a week say. I'm not sure what the other guy spent his time doing as he was supposed to be an engineer, but he wasn't being told to put much time into repairs.

The Scottish guys name is Simon, and I'd appreciate it if you stopped calling him lazy, as that is not in any way an accurate description of the guy I knew and worked with.

Yes, Ben was one of the other full timers and the other one that I saw in May had been on his annual pilgrimage to Mecca when I started work there, then was off sick and didn't return until after I left. He had been with MR for quite a while and when I did eventually meet him he certainly wouldn't have just been making up the numbers on a temporary basis. Maybe they had someone else working there before he came back off sick leave.

I still speak with/email some of the sales guys so I'll have to ask them what the other engineers name is.

BTW apologies to everyone else for these off-topic ramblings...

OK, but the guy I knew and worked with was lazy and anti-social to the point work was near impossible. I don't recall hearing of anyone taking a pilgrimage… but I do remember Tony saying someone was on sick leave… what are you saying about making up numbers? If you mention to Ben that the temp was a stoner He'll know what your mean 🙂

edit: btw, how long had the guy you'd known worked there? the guy i was talking about aparently had been hired just before I got there.

I doff my hat....

Power to you Ofey !! 😀

I watched the footage and remembered the image of 'guy in tent' during the camera pan sequence.

If you can achieve the same feat at the Bluewater and Birmingham openings, I for one would buy you a drink, but greater than that, you will reach a status of near immoratlity.

It did look as though you needed that tent, which was the main reason my lass didn't let me pander to my irrational insane tendacies by joining the queue the night before. FAAARRR too cold ....

Lucky you Ofey got 3 secs more than me on the news! I was the geeza with the glasses a few places in front of you...we set up our tent a few hours later after they recorded..damn! Thanks for the offer of those red socks i think you had..were they socks?!
Not sure if anyone has picked up on this earlier on this thread but i was amazed to see the amount, or lack of, memory they put in the Macs. If you want to impress the public then surely you would want to max it out with memory to show off how fast it can go. For example in one of the dual 2.5 ghz, didn't check the others, but it only had 512 mb ram!! And all the imacs had 768...again a bizarre figure as surely 1gb would be a more sensible figure (128 bit processing an all that) or even 2gb as they seemed a bit slugish (probs the fact that they weren't turned off for about >48 hrs.
Does anyone have the itv news coverage on sat/sun? A few of my friends saw us on their so it would be kewl to see

Finally sorted our photos out.. You can see them here.

Wish I'd thought to take some more in the store (had one, but it was terribly blurred), but think the heat and noise etc was too much and my brain gave up!!
