Is it possible to download my apple store movies, move them to an external device (like a usb stick), then copy them back to watch on an as needed basis?

I have the latest ipad 13" pro, if that makes any difference.

Unfortunately no. Apple doesn’t let you treat purchased films like normal files you can move around freely. You’re buying a licence, not a transferable file. Any files downloaded from the TV store/Itunes are DRM-protected (locked to your Apple ID and device).

Ah OK, thank you for the info. 👍

If you have a desktop or laptop computer, you have access to the physical files for your movies. You could then copy them to an external drive. I have done this. What I haven’t done is copy one of them to my iPad and then try to play it. Even if it works, it won’t copy the file into the Apple TV app to be played from there.

Edit: I just copied a music video I purchased through iTunes to my iPad and it plays perfectly (outside the Apple TV app, as I noted). I don’t know if music videos are DRM’ed or not. My guess is that they are. My full movies from iTunes are copied onto a different drive that I can’t connect to my iPad because the connector requires an adapter that I don’t have.

I hope this helps 🤷‍♂️

Very much appreciated. I do have a Mac Studio but this was really about taking my iPad on holiday, and trying to save space on the move. From what I can see, what I would like to do just isn’t possible - hey ho, you live and learn. Thank you again for taking the time to respond.
