For those not familiar with the geography of Sydney, Hornsby is better described as a northern hub on the edge of Greater suburban Sydney, or in other words, the last big suburban centre before leaving Sydney.

There is also an Apple store at Castle Hill, which is only about 6km west of Hornsby. The reopening Chatswood store is about 6km south-east of Hornsby. So, I suspect it was more about rationalising the number of stores in the area. To be clear, Hornsby was much more convenient for me too - but the other ones aren't too far.

I call BS. I’ve been to the Chadstone store in Melbourne Australia. And the staff pleasant and very helpful. A few people’s experiences do not paint the whole picture. Service for me was great and always has been.
I agree totally. I regularly go to the Apple store in Doncaster here. The staff are really pleasant, very knowledgeable, and particularly on the Genius Bar, very very helpful. Maybe if you go in with a bad attitude, you get a bad attitude back. ?

I wish Apple Australia would get their act together and open a store in the CBD of Melbourne. It's a total pain having to drive 30 minutes to get to a shopping centre location. Apple blew it totally by not buying the old GPO building, which is now a ****** H&M store. Then they came up with a ludicrous plan to put a totally inappropriate building in Federation Square which was rejected out of hand by the public and the planners. I think someone at Apple is still sulking about that! Maybe third time's the charm?

Apple stores were set up as a marketing tool, the model is now to make them profitable, if that continues most will close then the thing that drives sales to their products will be gone, a short sighted excercise in penny pinching
Cherry on top, short sight decisions usually will come back and bite them badly, even for Apple. It will be interesting to see how everything goes at that point.

Or just find someone local to give them more senses? Australia isn’t US and can’t apply the same logic when selecting store locations. I hope making change to that isn’t as hard as cannibalising their own culture.

Meanwhile Sydney still will have 2 Apple Store locations in Sydney CBD.

I was born in Wahroonga (Hornsby closest big shops back then) and but lived in Queensland most of my life. From a distance Hornsby is just a suburb of Sydney, although there wasn’t anything of note past Hornsby back then, and Westfield did not exist). The distance to Chatswood is nothing, but I do recognise it’s a bit of a drive timewise.

I also grew up not too far from Wahroonga but I'd acknowledge that the area is pretty much the end/limit of what could be considered "Sydney". I guess it's technically correct to say it's near Sydney in the sense it's a suburb of Sydney, but usually when people say "near Sydney" they mean near the city centre, which Hornsby is definitely not. (I also don't count Chatswood either as that near to Sydney city centre but it's close enough)

Have you spoken to an Apple employee recently?

What used to be enjoyable and informative has become a rather painful experience of marketing speak and reading off the spec sheet. Apple hires their staff to “look cool” rather than have a knowledge of their products. I gave up bothering to ask for help a few years ago. Even the Genius Bar has become painful to deal with.

This is not an accurate portrayal of the employees at my local store in Manhasset Long Island.

An appe store could only improve federation square. In fact, reduce its crassness.
