So I passed by my local Apple store today, to asses how the pick up process for pre-orders will be and while you are assigned a certain time. Cash Walk in buyers can get their phones and be out in minutes by 8:10 am (Apple stores are opening at 8am)

But Pre-orders like my 11 Pro Max I have to wait til 10:30am my assigned time. Like seriously?

You’re actually allowed to pick up your phone at any point tomorrow. You just aren’t guaranteed to have a short wait. If you wanted to pick it up at 8 then why didn’t you chose that pickup window?

Walk-ins on the first day probably won't have every choice available to them.

Trading in your Note 10?

That's counter to what other people on MR are saying. They are saying you have to go during your pick up window.

If you go early, you will get in the reserved line, but they will let people with reservation times ahead of you.

I’m confused... can’t you have just picked out 8am appointment time? Then you both get them at 8am. Or are you suggesting they should tell every person with a preorder to come in at random???

8am wasn’t offered at time of placement of the Order, and furthermore I had no idea, the store would open VIP style at 8am for cash Walk in buyers.

It’s like pre-orders are a hinderance we pay up sooner, they have a our business locked in, and treat us as they see fit. Instead of offering Priority Early Express PickUp which I’m sure will eventually be an extra charge.

Everyone who’s been to Universal Studios lately knows about Express Pass. You buy your $100 ticket then need to wait in a 45 min line to ride, but if you pay an extra $60 you have skip the line and go straight to the front.

Interesting theory lmao. I have an appointment at 8am tomorrow so no, the company is not prioritizing people who weren’t able to secure preorders.

That’s how it’s worked the last few times at the store I worked at. As someone else mentioned, the inventory of phones set aside for the walk-ins is usually severely limited.

Wait you had to actually wait till the appointment time you picked? That's awful. They should have waited on you first before anyone. Maybe they didn't know you were the real Alex?

Nah every time I went that’s what happens. They just put you in the reserved line first come first serve. You’re guaranteed your phone since it’s put away in the back, you’re just not guaranteed a particular time window in my experience.

The only thing is you haven't considered that Cash buyers will be in a line too. And they will be stuck choosing from whatever inventory is available.

When you say "that's what happens" you mean they only take you in your pick up window? Mine is at 11am. I'd like to get there earlier, but do t want to waste my time.

Op you realize other people were ahead of you ordering and got the earlier pick up windows right?

You’re not paying anything extra. You picked a time, and you don’t have to wait in a long line like the walk-ins do.

Ffs. Relax.

That’s because people already reserved that time before you and it filled up. You didn’t get there first in reserving it. Think of it this way, you are waiting already in a line of people like you who pre ordered their phone but this way you don’t have to wait in line for your turn but do what you want until your turn comes up. Unlike the people who are there who didn’t need pre order who have to try to get their as early as possible, before even the store opens, and spend all their time waiting for when their turn comes up. You didn’t think you were the only one pre ordering the phone, did you? Plenty of other people did too and many who wanted the same time slot you did ordered first and got their first.

The pick up window allows the store to schedule the right amount of staff members per hour. You can turn up any time you want but like others have said it don’t necessarily guarantee a short wait as those who have turned up for their correct time slot will be prioritised.

walk ins MAY get served quicker but their choices are limited.
There are dedicated people on pick up and walk in queues.

and as much as they want to see you in your time slot you’re also relying on customers rocking up, have all their information (Apple ID, passwords, back up done etc), happy with the colour, credit declines and everything else customers can throw at you which can make a simple transaction harder. But believe me the staff will always try and get to you in time.

Coming from a former employee.

The idea is you are somewhat guaranteed a phone tomorrow. Walk-in buyers are not.
Thats the trade off because you can’t have everyone that preordered showing up at the opening bell expecting the first phone.

People on MR should read the reservation email that Apple sent out that address this very question in the FAQ...

You’re right, everyone that pre-ordered should get the 8am time slot. Because thousands of people that reserved at each store should just show up all at once. That won’t make people complain that pre-ordered that now have to wait hours because there isn’t enough staff or physical space to give everyone their phone at the same time...

This is something I've noticed here. People are way too self-centered. Or just incapable of seeing another person's viewpoint.

I preordered 5 minutes after preorders went live.

My phone is being delivered probably after 12 noon. On launch day.

The world will still be here after I get it.

A lot people aren’t even going to get to play today because of various issues.

Enjoy the phone in a COUPLE of hours.
