Wow, that carrier store advantage for the iPhone is amazing. I figured it was closer these days. This is why you have to have your phones in all the carriers stores to be able to sell a reasonable amount of them.

Word on the street is that apple allows big box resellers (B&H, Best Buy etc) to give discounts so they don't have to do it in their own store. Gotta keep up with the appearance. No one will ever have to pay retail for a MacBook Air as long as Best Buy is in existence.

iPhones, carrier and retail have lots of discounts. Target is doing a $100 gift card deal now. AT&T does BOGO offers. Best Buy will straight up give discounts in a month or so if you finance on a carrier plan

Apple Store Remains Most Popular Destination to Purchase a Mac in the United States

Will Apple force MacRumors to make a correction here? After all, they just want you to call it "Apple". And they're probably going to rebrand the computers in the near future as well. So...

"Apple Remains Most Apple-y Destination to Apple an Apple in the United States."

I’ve preordered all of my phones, and I’ve only been able to order one or two phones from Apple. The last few years, it’s been nearly impossible to get through on there at preorder time. The carrier sites are much easier to access.

Angela Ahrendts and store employees need to do a better job at getting people to not shop at Apple stores...

Angela Ahrendts: "The days of waiting in line and crossing fingers for a product are over for our customers. The Apple Store app and our online store make it much easier to purchase Apple Watch and the new MacBook. Customers will know exactly when and where their product arrives.

This is a significant change in mindset, and we need your help to make it happen. Tell your customers we have more availability online, and show them how easy it is to order. You’ll make their day."

I go to the Apple store. But that is because it’s literally 4 miles from my front door. If it wasn’t, online, next day delivery would be the way forward.

I usually go where the financing is better so for me:

Macs and iPads: Best Buy
iPhone: Apple

Occasionally Microcenter or B&H

Apple needs better financing on things that aren't the iPhone.

John Lewis/Peter Jones is the best place here in the UK as you get a longer guarantee on Apple products than you would from just getting them from the Apple shop.
I recently bought a MacBook Pro in the Apple store in Uk because of the law that makes Apple provide long guarantee in the uk(and Europe), I doubt these retailers provide a longer than the 6 year warranty of the uk law. (Bought directly from Apple because this way they are the seller and are the ones who have to fix things so it’s easier to deal with Apple than retailers)

Always bought my iPhones 4-7 directly at the Apple Store. With $200 off sale and education 10%off discount, my MacBook was purchased at Best Buy at about $400 off MSRP for my config.

If you can get it cheaper elsewhere, do it. Apple products are the only consumer goods that can be bought at B&M stores and still be serviced directly at the Apple store. Best customer service for any consumer good that I know of.

"based on 2,000 survey respondents who purchased a Mac during that period."

How was that done?! Self-reports via the Internet?! LOL! I'll wager that the survey was NOT random and did not produce a representative sample!

The tech press and we readers need to exercise more caution before buying into these marketing surveys! We should also be critical of the findings. The story focused on Macs, but, intriguingly, the sales patterns they reported differed greatly for iPads and iPhones, which raises another host of issues!

"The CIRP survey shows that the picture is very different when it comes to iPads and iPhones, however …

It will come as no surprise to see that around three-quarters of iPhones are bought through carriers, with Apple Stores accounting for just over 10% of sales. What may be somewhat more surprising is that Apple is only the second-largest retailer of iPads, totalling some 20% of sales. The retail lead there is held by Best Buy, which sells a quarter of them." See https://9to5mac.com/2017/10/19/apple-store-sales-cirp/

As to B & H, let's temper our enthusiasm! They have been the subject of discrimination lawsuits -- as a result of their unfair wages and mistreatment of Latinos and blacks. They were even sued by the Department of Labor!

As the story makes clear, back in 2007, they settled another similar lawsuit for several million dollars!

I used to be a booster of B & H, too, until reading about these complaints!

Sometimes when the deals are too good -- there's a reason for it! Companies that pay their workers less than they should -- and discriminate against workers of color -- often charge less for their products! We shouldn't reward such behavior. Touting them as a place to buy Apple goods without regard to the rest of the story is not being fair or balanced!
