My iPhone X definitely needs to be replaced. Earliest appt the Apple store had was 6 days out which is a joke.

My phone is doing things all on its own...deleting apps, zooming, scrolling all when I’m not touching it. Something is wrong with the screen I guess. Phone support agreed it’s prob the hardware and needs to be changed out.

My question is has anyone gotten theirs replaced for being defective and what was the process? Did they have them in store? Give a temp replacement phone while they ship in a new one?

Most Apple stores will have replacement units set aside strictly for defects for in-store exchanges. If they don't have any available in your local Apple Store, Apple will have to ship one to you, followed by you shipping your iPhone X back to them.

If your phone does not work I would not wait 6 days. That is crazy. Go to the Apple store and show them it is not working and they will replace. Make sure you do a good backup before.

You haven't had it long enough to require an apple store appointment - did you buy it in store or online?

If it's online, go through to the Apple Store after sales number (not AppleCare) and ask them to replace it.

my X wifi didnt work properly, sent it back on Monday 13th. My replacement will be here today. Bit of a joke really.

Yeah don’t wait 6 days. Your within your return period. Just walk in and show them. Should be out a phone like that. Especially if it’s brand new.

A few people have reported that the Apple store they visited had 3 of each SKU available as warranty replacements (white box). At this point, they'll all be new as there hasn't been time for refurbished units to make their way through.

+1 - don't wait with a defective device - go in to the Apple store, if you get the runaround, ask to speak to the manager. No-one should be asked to wait 6 days with a defective device.

Thanks everyone! I will go in tomorrow as they are closed for turkey day.

IMO, it's always a gamble to walk into an Apple Store to be seen by the Genius Bar (which require appointments) when you don't have an appointment.

At the Apple Store I worked at, walk-ins for the Genius Bar were put into a special queue that were only seen when a customer who had a reservation no-showed. If nobody "no-shows", the walk-in queue doesn't move.

Keep in mind, you'll be doing this on Black Friday, so the store will likely already be a zoo.

Had my X replaced today in the UK with a pre-booked Genuis Bar appoinment. Had a problem with an overly warm / pinkish display. Was outside the return window but they replaced it as they acknowledged the issue with my unit. I made a separate thread on it for anyone interested. It was replaced with a brand new unit, but they did say they had a limited supply

Mine showed up with some dead pixels.

Took it in to Apple Store (appointment 3 days after) and they swapped it out for a new one.

They have boxed, phone only units for replacement purposes

They didn’t offer to send one out first and then when you got replacement send the old back?

as I only had it for 2 days before returning it, they said the replacement was expressed over direct from China. Couldn't have got it any quicker. They sent it as soon as I told them I had a faulty phone (before they got it back) but still took a while!
