Would the Apple Store (not online) give me a refund on an opened iPad that has nothing wrong with it within 14 days?

Yes, but with a restocking fee, of 20%, but I have read on this forum 10%...

I think it's 10%, at least that's what it says on their refund policy (but it doesn't mention opened items which is why I asked)

The restocking fee is 10%. Don't know where you're getting 20 from.
Of course it does...if you saw the restocking fee, you saw that it applies to opened items only:

"Apple will assess a 10% restocking fee on any opened hardware or accessory."

Ah I was looking at the bullet points. Nevermind.

Good to know. I just don't know if it's worth keeping. I'll keep it for those 14 days and if no good apps turn up and Safari isn't as fast as it should be, I'll just get a refund and be done with it.

Been crackin' my head enough about this!

It should be noted that some states do not allow this fee by law. For example, in Hawaii (one of these states), even if the box is opened, if you return it within the company's stated return period, they refund you the full price plus tax.

let me note that so that i never start a business in those states! haha seriously, an open and used product cannot be sold for full price so why wouldn't there be a restocking fee of sorts? people amaze me sometimes. stop buying things at a whim and do research before making the plunge. You will avoid restocking fees ;).

It's pretty much just Hawaii, and even then it's not always illegal. The reason Hawaii is a special case is because of the already high cost of getting goods to the islands and comparatively low selection in stores. In Hawaii, products returned in undamaged condition with all packaging and accessories can only be assessed a restocking fee if it was a special order item. Otherwise, sales price plus sales tax (but not shipping charges) are refunded.

    Oh boohoo.

They live in Hawaii. I'd pay a monthly subscription fee to live there :p

What's even the point in buying one straight away if you're not even sure if you want it?

Wouldn't it be better to wait a while and see if any good apps come out, or go to an Apple store and play with one there?
