iPhone X Apple Store trade-In, is it worth it?

It seems like the watch trade in is a good idea.. I’m not sure they are holding value quite like he phones. I’d sell the phone privately.

How does Apple give credit for a trade in if you do it online? My local store doesn’t have the iPhone I want, so I thought about buying online and doing the trade in while I was at it. Do they give you a gift card after they receive your phone or do they apply the money towards the monthly payment? I’d prefer a credit to my monthly payment option that I’m going to do, but I didn’t really know how they handled the trade in credits.

How does this look on a credit card? I'm looking to trade in series 3 watch for a series 4. I want the full amount to show on my credit card in case there are deals and I can use price protection around the holidays.
