Why on earth is a cert refurb iPhone X 549 and a brand new xr only 499? What am I missing?

Yes, as others have mentioned. X (even though one year older than XR) has an OLED screen (vs LCD screen on XR) and has dual-camera lens (vs only 1 lens on XR). The X was the premium phone the prior year, whereas the XR is the "mid-range" phone from the XS / XS Max generation.
