And it doesn’t even work.
This is where I have a question (that hopefully a New Yorker in particular would be able to answer). I read recently that Cuomo supposedly said that something like 2/3rds of New York's new cases...were in people who have stayed home. Any truth to that? If it's true...that would be a worrying issue.

You might want to do more research if you think the Netherlands is on the mend. Here you go..... https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/

FYI - While we are all hoping for the best and supporting eachother this isn't a competition of who's country is in better standing. Only 888 new cases? Today cases are up to 992 with 262 new deaths so you might want to rethink your defensive logic and update your numbers. Italy sadly is still a mess as way too many countries are. We are talking peoples lives here not pork belly stats on the big board. Early openings are a dangerous risk....we don't get "do-overs" in life and death situations.
You can almost hear the panic in your post. Who is dying is everything. You have to understand who is dying, not just the raw numbers that are endlessly reported on mainstream media. They have done zero critical thinking.

Also, people die every day...not just from COVID-19...I know, shocker. It’s disingenuous to act like you care about life because this is the hot topic now. You didn’t care at all when 61,000 in the US died from the flu in one season...because you weren’t told to care.

There are many deadly viruses, bacteria, and other preventable and non preventable causes of death that are quite destructive. This is just another one on the list. We take precautions, but we have to move on or unintended consequences mount.

It‘s harder to measure, but long term quarantines have serious consequences.

This virus is not the most dangerous thing we’ve seen dude...there are large sections of the population that aren’t impacted at all and healthy people have basically a 100% recovery. We need to protect those who are weak and old...not apply quarantine to every person and let them starve because they can’t work.

Italy has to get back to work.

Thinking critically, there is more to that story, reporting errors, or other factors involved.

Plus, the vast majority of deaths are people with conditions. Still sad, still an issue...but this virus doesnt kill young people or even impact them much Symptomatically if they are infected. It doesn’t kill health people. That is huge.

My numbers was referring to 13 may when was given the last update from Italian government...the numbers you are referring are of the 14 may update (today). So my numbers are correct cause was the last update available at the time i posted here. ;)

I don't play or joke with this topic or numbers cause we was hit hardly from the virus.
I agree with you that is not a country competition and that we are talking about people lives (big respect), i have a relative in the front line in the fight against the virus in hospital, so I've knowledge of what we are talking about.

We have had one of the most restricted lock down in the world compared to other countries that have had or still having lock down.

ALL CLOSED ALL, obligatory quarantine at home, just one family member allowed to go out with authorization paper in pocket to go in the only 3 open stores (markets, pharmacy, newsagents) to buy food, medicine, newspapers and fast back at home. Obligatory Mask, gloves, with big lines and one by one allowed entry in the mentioned stores.
After 18 pm curfew, police and military on the streets etc etc for almost 3 MONTHS.

The results are here with "only" 262 deaths compared to the almost 1.000 of months ago...the tendency curve is going down and in many areas almost 0 new cases with 0 deaths and few people in intensive care...
You have to understand that referring to the numbers there are only two regions where the cases of infection and death are more concentrated.

The other 18 regions are way better and in most of them almost 0 new cases etc etc. The covid hospitals are closing around the country and who have been infected in the last weeks are not going to need an intense care treatment cause the new protocols discovered and tested are giving excellent results.

The most infected are at home care, the rest in hospital not in intensive care.
The situation is waaay better compared to months ago, we are going in the right direction...

Sadly who is still dying in the last days are people was infected months ago when we was in the highest peak of the infection without the knowledge protocols and intense care available places compared to now.

Im not saying we are out of infection or that we are better than other counties, just giving the real situation here now. Italy is going to "reopen" 19 of May (probably with more restrictions in the mentioned regions), but with guide lines, rules, precautions, distances and protections for old and weak people. Its not a "GO" and do what you want reopen...

I don't forget when we was starting the lock down and in many countries was underestimating the virus problem. The results are now here under your eyes... so if you live in a country still in the high peak of infection stay home, masks/gloves and respect the distances.

Hope all the world out of the virus as soon as we can...😘

With respect, I understood your original post with regard to May 14th numbers however I might have reacted a bit too harsh. From my heart I wish you nothing but the best and may you and your loved ones be safe. God Bless.

Do you live in Italy? Where your words coming from? Honestly i live in Italy and the situation is way better than many other countries in the world now. 19 May almost anything will open, with masks, distance etc etc but will open. The lock down worked and in many areas of Italy the virus is almost at 0 cases. Italy is divided in 20 regions and only in 2 (Lombardia and Piemonte) the virus is still "high" but the virus curve tendency is anyway going down. I live in a region of 3 millions persons and yesterday was only 19 persons in intense therapy and 400 in hospitals...and in all Italy (60 millions) yesterday was only 888 new cases. The new medical therapies discovered and tested in Italy (Plasma and more) are giving excellent results and in general the infected are not going to the intense therapies anymore. Many infected are going out from the infection in a short time compared to before and many incredibly are out of the virus in 48h...Hospitals are emptying in all Italy and covid departments closing... Till the vaccine no one in the world is safe but with precautions normal life can start again... So please before give fake information...ask. Cheers ;)

I live in the Netherlands and again what's going on, and fortunately it is many times better than other countries. If you compare it to the Netherlands, where we have an intelligent lock down and don't have to close any shops, it's very strange that the Apple shop in Amsterdam, Haarlem and The Hague closed.

All this because people of 65 years and older have a problem, the average age of people with COVID-19 is 81 years. A vaccine is not a panacea but just like the flu vaccine it is a help for the elderly and people with poor health. The majority of people will never or to a lesser extent be affected by this disease, the panic and measures are worse than the disease.

I live in the Netherlands and again i know what's going on, and the number of people who are sick has been decreasing for ages. But our government doesn't keep track of how many people have been cured, it keeps track of how many have died.

The bolded is just incorrect. SARS-COV-2 can send anyone to the hospital on a ventilator, leave holes in their lungs or blood clots and damaged organs, even if the affected doesn't die. Under 65 still is well represented. https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/69/wr/mm6915e3.htm

Apple probably closed their stores due to an abundance of caution, imo. (rather than a lack of inventory as has been suggested previously)
