now comeon scott. highland park is nowhere near plano. i mean it may be 15mi but those of us who live(d) there know it takes at least 30 minutes to get to plano from highland park.

ALSO, you seem to forget how much money is in those two areas. one of the only places in the DFW area with as much or more money in it than plano is Highland Park.

Plus, Highland Park is a great move, as it is home to SMU, a very expensive private university with quite prestigious music and theatre departments.

you say sad, i say ridiculously smart.

edit: 30 minutes is a laughable underestimate. more like an hour on Dallas highways.

edit2: on the cinema display running XP...3500 in sales is 3500 in sales. whoever would use it to run XP, thats their own problem.

sparkleytone's logic also makes sense for the store placements in MA. Having one in Cambridge (close to the colleges and high income communities) and another on the north shore makes a lot of business sense. With weekday, or summer traffic on the weekends, it could take someone a lot of time to get from one to the other (over 30 minutes).

The one just inside NH is also in a good area. The mall where it is located is the only major one inside of 30-40 miles (the next closest one would be Manchester, NH). I would suspect that Apple will, eventually, open up a store in Manchester. That would cover the major population densities for NH, and I know many people, from NH, that don't mind driving an hour to get to one of the major malls. Typically, traffic moves rather well, so there are not any major holdups.

I would imagine that Apple did more then a little research before deciding upon where to open up their stores. It would not be good to open them up too close together and have them competing with each other.

Hey Choppaface,

If you look at the retail job postings, you'll find that Apple is planning a store in Emeryville. Now, that's not quite SF, but close - or at least close to Pixar.....

Anyway, the CompUSA in SF is about as good as they come, (even though CompUSA generally sucks) and MacAdam isn't too bad either. So, soon enough you'll be able to go over the bridge to an apple store, rather than down the peninsula to Palo Alto.

ya i've been to macadam...I got my lacie 22" there any my dad got his tibook there...they're really nice, although sometimes a bit jumbled

i usually stop by the compusa in san rafael (I live in marin) to get stuff quickly, but at least there will be a store now closer than palo alto :D

I understand that putting stores in areas with lots of people with lots of money is a good idea, but there are plenty of other places without an Apple store for hundreds of miles. It is true, though, that the Dallas highways are very busy, and that getting through town is tough. I still think that Apple should spread out their stores, but advertise them. Make them known to the surroundings. Have radio ad's or billboards.
