My Experience Sucked

I actually did this exact process yesterday. I spent the time to fill out the form, have then verify my at&t account, and then show me which phones were available at my local store.

I then selected a time to go to the store and pick up my phone. When I arrived I was told that they have no phones at all.

It was a total waste of time.

I cant even get to the point where it verifies my att account.

Ok, the only option that doesn't work is the "add another line to an existing account", which is what I'm trying to do :(

Credit check and deposit

Tried the activation online, and it said checking credit with ATT. Didn't say that a deposit would be required.Just tells you to stop by Apple store for purchase and setup.Does anyone know if they tell you about a deposit, if you need one, at the Apple store?

Or if they went back to the iPhone v1 sales model you could walk in, purchase your phone then go home and deal with all the ATT stuff.

I still find it impossible to comprehend that you cannot buy an iPhone 3G as a gift.
I bought one as a gift. The person ended up getting one on his own before I was able to give it to him, but you pretty much just buy a phone and a new line, then have everything transferred to that person's line and cancel yours. It's a bit more of a hassle than with the original iPhone, but it's not impossible.

Yeah if only they thought of this before launch day....they could of avoided all the lines.

Of course they could have implimented this approach for launch but AT&T and Apple love the artificial publicity rabid consumers give them by waiting in ridiculous lines.

If they are going this far with prequalification, why not just ship the device once you're approved and set up like any other phone?

I'll find out tomorrow. I plan on going to the Apple store to finish my purchase. :)

Same here, I will be interested to see what they say about a deposit since I have not so great credit.

Credits not super bad

but it worked for me - no deposit and I went right through - good luck

Kinda worked for me. I didn't realize it. I owe ATT a balance for a previous account 3 years ago. Once that balance is paid, I can get a new account.
