Apple Studio Display in XP

My roommate is trying to hook up an Apple Studio Display (CRT) to his Windows XP box. It connects via VGA and gives all the possible resolutions (as shown on the apple spec sheet)

however!

the image isn't stretching to fill the whole screen, there are black bars on the sides. It's displaying at the correct resolution, it's just frustrating that it's not taking up the full screen.

Anyone have any suggestions?

The problem with some of the older Mac displays in Windows, since they require software controls to change a lot of the stuff that is handled by front panel controls on most other displays.

If you cannot find a free driver, it likely is best to find a sub $50-100 monitor with front panel controls -- or one somebody is giving away.
